Whats more, Erens greatest wish is to destroy the Titans, so if Historia eating him would result in the titans being destroyed, I am totally convinced that Eren would give his life to see that done. Even outside of the emotional conflict, his desire to be eaten is consistent with his motivation.

Anyone else was also a bit confused why Historia suddenly had a change of heart at the last minute? After reading some comments I found some nice explanation: 1) She took inheriting the founding titan as her duty being a royal blood. This also means Historia was prepared to sacrifice her own will and to be a "good girl" for the sake of humanity. Remembering Ymir asking her to live for herself made her decide not to easily accept the fate and duty set out by her father. She decided to take Ymir's wish and rebel against her father. 2) It is because of Eren's attitude. If Eren put up a fight, Historia would have had no hesitation to turn and try to eat Eren. But Eren felt guilt and had the thought "I'd better die for the sake of others." - the thought that was central to Historia's childhood. Meeting Ymir made Historia know that no one should think like that. Now Historia made a decision that she will always be on the side of whoever that has no one on their side, and those who think it is better to just sacrifice themself for the sake of others.

Btw the Titan serum only works when it's in the bloodstream, so the reason he was able to lick it and transform was bcz Kenny cut a bit of the inside of rods mouth so the serum got in through that cut

@@JBurnz001 spoiler who? Are you talking about Eren eating the Warhammer? He was already a titan. This is about humans turning into titans, not titans stealing powers. Normal titans don't need to cut their mouth before they eat a shifter to turn human again so it wouldn't make sense for a shifter to need to do that either.

He said it's because it's his duty to bring "God" back into the world but really he's just scared and manipulating others like Historia and Kenny called him out for lol (you guys were theorizing but that's basically it they don't mention it again). just trying to point out something about rod's character. I always thought of him in the same way as you do. But i just realised something about it. After Uri (his brother) got the founding.Rod got convinced of his 'duty' to maintain the order( passing on the power) to the next generation. He basically has the same strife of belief as the followers of the Wall Church. The reason he initially didn't want to take the power from Uri when the time had come was because he realised that there was no other that he could trust to carry on his 'duty'. So he handled it with Frieda. Really found it interesting of the character's purpose in Historia's part.

Rod Reiss somehow knew he gonna turn into an abnormal titan that would ignore Eren and go straight to the town 2. Rod Reiss had a faint hope that Historia, being half royal, would act differently than his brother and daughter who got consumed by the first Reiss king's will Anyway, Rod Reiss was not entirely evil or just being coward. He IS a shitty father and not a courageous guy, yes, but he was being truthful when he talked about the founding titan and answered Historia's question. From later flash backs (appear when Historia deal the killing blow to Rod) we know that Rod Reiss tried so hard to convince his father to exterminate Titans and save humanity. He worked with his brother and daughter to do the same thing too. He even got into jail for this endeavor. It is after the failure by his daughter then he kinda lost all hope and accepted the reality.

For me, it is quite clear that the episode (together with the confirmation shown in later flash back) aims to show that Rod really has the resolve to finish his duty to make Historia retake the power of the founding titan. He didn't flinch at the knife by Kenny, he didn't beg for mercy when things went to shit. We know Rod really was ambitious as a teenager but got disappointed as failure repeated.

She has a different perspective that doesn't mean she's stupid smh

Nope. Rod had his chance before and chose not to be a titan, that's why Uri was the founding titan even tho he was the younger brother. Rod simply didn't want to be a titan, and he only transform himself in the end because he would be captured. And the licking transformed him into a strange titan. It doesn't matter if his mouth was cutted, the injection stabilizes the transformation
