I do have one question as a Charge Blade main. Since a large portion of your damage comes from phials, is it still better to focus on affinity or is atk boost better because higher raw means higher phial damage for impact charge blades. Just wanted to know your thoughts, obviously artillery is more important than both, but after that atk boost vs affinity which would be more beneficial

i would like to know about elemental LS build in iceborn, since LS has a pretty bad elemental modifier on helm breaker is it even worth to go for elemental? the priority is critical element or maxing elemental attack?

When you only have 2 attack gems: "So, we'll be using 9 attack gems for this build..." When you have a load of attack gems: "ATTACK BOOST IS A TRAP"

And the whole premise is pointless as if your endgame enough to care about this you have garuda greaves so you have all the slot room you need to have lvl 7 attack and crit eye.

Long story short: Once numbers get high enough, adding a % damage increase > adding a flat damage increase.

superxdish get a GL with max lvl for the shell type. Get artillery maxed and capacity boost and then do whatever else you want. Guard, guard up, health boost etc. One of the most fun and versatile weapons.

As someone with exactly 1 attack jewel you’ve saved me hours of pain and crying. Thank you math man.

It's something that's carried over from most MH games. Up til the highest of High Rank, attack boost is one of the best skills. Once you hit the early MR or GR of any MH, crit and affinity becomes WAY better.

KrakenAttackin attack L was combined with Sharpness+1 with Honed Edge in 4u, combined with Challenger/Agitator for the efficient affinity. WE had no affinity boost, it was pretty much an inbuilt Wounding on weak hitzones. Gen and GU had Crit Boost, and WE gave 50% affinity. SilverLos was king, even with a set that DOUBLED your charm's stats and gave +2 to every skill you had. Yeah.

@@krakenattackin7617 Yeah, pretty much. I remember that it was basically Reckless Abandon+2/3 or Crit Draw in Unite. If I remember right, the Attack Boost skill was just a very small boost added straight to your current attack and wasn't affected by multipliers in the damage calculation. You'd invest 20 points into Attack Boost to get basically no improvement. We really didn't have the kinds of sets back then as we do now though. The best Hammer set in Unite basically just had 30% affinity, Handicraft 5(?), and High Grade Earplugs in World's terms.

@@ShupperDupper Thing is, even with a GOD Charm (that you'll never find in 1000h of farming), that Final Boss set was still worse or on pair with a Mixed set. You could try to fit the same skills as your SilverLos or JhoCeana or whatever mixed, but you need a God Charm just to be on pair and at that point if you have a God charm for your mixed you could probably still end up on top. I tried, really, i tried very hard to find a way to beat a Mixed set with the Final Boss with all the God Charms in the world in Atena ASS/random Set Builder but i couldn't find it. I always had a mixed set with better skills. To be 100% fair I didn't try all the weapons (no Lance/GL/HH/HBG/LBG stuff and such) but other people on Discord didn't find anything and they use all of those.

CB favors artillery, always a must in CB build. Coalescence decos in IB is recommended for elder dragons.

Thanks for this guys, as you just inspured me to make a hellish slasher with wex 3, crir boost 3. Crit eye 7, agitator 5, and at least 4-6 attack depending on later sets when i have all monsters unlocked. You guys are an inspiration to build junkies like myself

Nice video articulating the importance of mulplicative damage modifiers over additive ones. I came here from Division where the concepts are the same but it takes testers like you guys to sort the gems from the garbage ;) Keep it up!

I always wondered why my defensive build always did only slightly less damage then someone else's damage build, and now I know why thanks to this video. Also one thing I see a lot of damage builds doing is always going for the big damage attacks; while they do a ton of damage in one go my defensive build with a lance does almost the same damage because I am constantly attacking the monster while doing what defense builds do, so I would love to see a video on constant damage versus big damage attacks to see what the difference in damage might be.

Hey love the content. I’d love to see a comparison between max Crit impact chargeblade and max attack impact charchblade.

I’m just wondering if this applies to impact phials on CB. From what I recall, only PEP crit so would make more sense on PEP CBs and ignored on impact CBs

the problem is that in vanilla attack made a bigger difference because raw wasnt as high as now, so 12 raw dmg to a 700 raw dmg weapon means more than to a 900+ raw dmg weapons we got now in IB

So, would augmenting atk up and affinity up be the main priority for weapons now?

In my end game SAxe build, I managed to fit crit 7, Attack 7, wex 3, crit boost 3 and 2 max might. I'm using R. Nerg SAxe, so should I replace the 2 attack decos with dragon attack?

I’ve been finding that crit eye is really easy to build in Iceborne. Easily able to build 3 WX, CB, and level 7 crit eye, heck, most weapons reach 50% crit without weakness exploit and not even have to get level 7 crit eye

Nice video, makes me think over about adding in attack 7 or attack 4 plus 1 challenger for the 5percent extra affinity when enraged

The armor set I wear comes with 6 atk naturally and I end up the 5 single slots after I put in my defensive options that I like. I have been putting whatever element gems in those slots to buff up my atk. Would it be better to put in crit eye gems, or would it not work without the crit boosts and weakness exploits?

When does honey hunter builder would be updated for iceborne???

They probably tried to balance that by giving them a lot of natural purple sharpness (rip naturally full sharpness bar) but then they also gave purple sharpness the bullshit nerfed modifier from Gen U, so it's not really worth it anyway.

I mean.... magazine boost and artillery. And raw/element boosts depending on what your weapons sided with and phials. Of course, after you slot CE 7, WE 3, CB 3. Handicraft too, if you need it and can fit it..

Honestly it really is a trap. The weight of those attack decos have went down significantly since weapons raw went up but the attack boost stayed the same. I go up to 4 for the extra 5 affinity but even now it's starting not to be worth the slots. I think the attack boost skill needs a buff or "Attack Boost Secret" needs to be a thing. *Edit* Attack Boost Secret would need a % bonus at the "secret levels" for it to be effective again.

Out of the 3 crit increasing skills, which one should i prioritize if i can't have all

What about on charge blade where at times half your damage is from phials that don’t crit? Especially if you don’t have critical boost?

PC player here so I don't have iceborne yet. I made a set for cb that has attack +7(Which you can tellfrom the video, isn't very good) for raw charge blade that has None Elemental Boost Capacity boost and Artillery +3 But can't raise the base attacl over 1150 which others could do with only atttack+ 4?

I have a question, I'm currently running a safi ig build and it uses attack charm to max out my affinity, crit boost 3 and masters touch so that my sharpness never goes down. The build reccomended using lv 1 agitator to fill an extra slot. But I was wondering if agitator at level one is worth it since it only grants +4 attack 5% affinity when active. Yet for some reason the build said weakness exploit wasnt necessary. I guess my question is if I have an extra slot would it be better to get agitator lv 1, weakness exploit lv 1, or push my attack boost to lv 5? I'm bad at maths please go easy on me.

Cool video, I'm new to mh but I'm kinda a veteran when it comes to RPG mechanics. I already knew it especially using the gs as my main weapon the flat attack boost felt underwhelming pretty early in the game, I still use attack boost 4 for the affinity only because I have no better choices atm. It was a nice and informative video (even if a bit old)

I've been doing some meme builds concerning Hunting Horns and their Impact and Dragon Echoes attacks (neither of which scale with crit, and only scale with raw damage). I know crit is overall better for the weapon anyways, but could you guys do a vid about echoes and how their mechanics work? I know that Dragon echoes do more damage, but I also know that Dragon Echoes get their damage cut on encores so that it equals the damage of Impact Echo encores. I still need to test whether Dragon Attack raises Dragon Echo damage, whether using an Impact Echo as the middle song resets the Dragon Echo damage reduction on encores, whether Dragon Echoes has Elderseal properties, whether it’s Elderseal can be increased by the armor skill if it does, whether a recital does 3x Elderseal damage when encored with 3 songs, and whether a 3 song Impact Echo encore does 3x KO/Exhaust damage.

Same. When your talking separates, yes, multipliers are better than adders. But using them together creates the best results in my mind. I have max attack boost, crit boost and dragon attack boost on my build. I handle pretty much anything going at me.

Can I ask where fitting in purple sharpness comes in? I've used the Coral SA a bit and had a build of 100% aff + CB + water attack 6 and then the choice of AB4 or Handi. I should go back after watching this to check I can't fit agi tbh, although I only ever got one deco base game and now have TWO Challenger/Vitality already!) But I found comparing the AB4 to the Handi 3/4 set for purple the AB4 set hit harder. But at what point is enough Handi to run purple worth it?

So my question would be then what would be better? Having the agitator charm or having one of the elemental charms too boast ur elemental damage?

Oh! I finally figured out why I have trouble focusing for the entire video. There are about zero breaks to think about what you've said, so I'm just constantly trying to digest the audio information while the video is going (and I'm bad at remembering auditory information), so I just end up zoning out while the auditory information just keeps coming and I have no time to think. Now I'm not sure how other people work, but even loving math and having a math-related degree I can't focus all the way through a video of yours. Just something to think about if I'm similar to your target audience.

Hi Jinx...one if your MH Math students and in your latest video I was trying to duplicate the math piece on the "not softened parts" section of the video... You have WEX3 + CB3 equals 1.12CM which I can duplicate just fine ..when you add in CE7 you have 1.28 but when I calculate I get 1.56. Is there a reason why I'm off?

How does Element vs attack boost scale? I guess element is priority only on builds that use crit element?

Topic explained in one sentence without watching the video: 100% affinity+ crit boost= 40% overall dmg buff Attack boost lvl7 meeeh

TL;DR Attack Boost is useless because the weapons' (even high rank) have too much damage to account for. Is better to have Afinity and Crit Boost. On Iceborne is the same thing; however, since you have more level 2 jewels available is better to have agitator level 4 than attack boost 7.
