    HUUUGE Applause!!!!!!! Govind's read on return, taking balls on the rise, and speed is absolutely unreal. Karue's clearance over the net is just a little bit low and he gave up too many close points because of it. He's awesome, but I'm a bit surprised he managed the comeback. The biggest advantage Govind has is his ability to do the splits, which kept him in a TON of points here. If I was coaching a new kid, I'd admonish him that if he can't do the splits, forget about getting to the top. It's that important and it's only gonna get more important over time. Djokovic should be a lesson to everybody. Awesome match and would love to see these two battle it out again! Two very likeable opponents.

    A couple of notes below but fun to watch Govind and Karue battle. I remember doing forehand technique analysis for Govind back in 2015 in Boca at USTA player development. It turns out he didn't have an "ATP Forehand" at that age/time so I made suggestions on how to implement it. 1) That return of serve to go up 6-3 0-40 on Karue’s serve was critical. Govind called himself an idiot for going big line on that when he didn’t need to. Had he gone up 0-40 there it would have been over. He just made a poor tactical choice against a good opponent and he paid for it. 2) Govind’s cardio wasn’t up for the the job today. Karue plays aggressive and takes the ball early, but Govind can counter like a mad man. Unfortunately for Govind that knee has probably played a huge role in his ability to be “match fit”. My guess is his cardio is very limited still and that cost him here. 3) Karue has improved his forehand and serve tremendously since college. He’s a better ball striker now than he ever was then. Thank you internet/video for that post improvement. 4) Technique is important and Karue has demonstrated that with his serve, forehand, and backhand. What’s more important once you have all of those things though are “intangibles”. Govind has intangibles in spades. The ability to return and apply pressure against great quality serves. The ability to chase down balls and make a guy hit 3 or 4 winners on you in a point. The ability to control ball aim and depth off of really aggressive deep balls from Karue. That court coverage, speed, reaction time, and hand control apply pressure in a way that makes players feel like they have to go for smaller targets. And most players fail when they feel like they “have to do more”. 5) Karue hit a couple of critical "body 1st serves" at Govind because going wide or T wasn't working well. He mixed a few of those in at critical times later in the match and got short/weak returns on some really big points. 6) Karue had to break Govind's rhythm with serve and volley because Karue was getting beat off the ground, especially in the first 5 games. Karue knew he couldn't beat Govind off the ground so he had to mix it up. Well recognized Karue. 7) Govind regularly trained at the USTA facility in Carson California. He practiced there for years with the top juniors and pros in the country. He’s essentially played against and “seen it all”. As good as Karue is, Govind has seen it before. 8) Hats off to Karue for coming through, he stayed steady the whole time, but Govind’s “intangibles” we’re definitely getting to him mentally. Karue made a good comment about the bigger you hit to some guys the better they play, that’s 100% true. Certain players lock in and play better the more pace that you give them, they use that pace against you. Against them you’re often times better off taking pace off and increasing spin, giving them less so they have to do more of the work. Good tennis all around boys. Keep it up. -Jason Frausto

  • @TennisUnleashed

    @TennisUnleashed

    5 ай бұрын

    @@elchanclascocina I don't think the sliding is the big problem with joints unless it's violent in the way you impact the court. The main issue is playing so much tennis on hardcourts 6 days a week 4 hours a day from the time you're young until you're Govind's age. The body wasn't built to run around on concrete like that. Unfortunate to see the injuries in so many young players these days but players are overtraining and spending too much time on hardcourts. -Jason Frausto

    It was REALLY fun to watch two players who move great and prepare for the ball. Their bodies never looked awkward, and there wasn't a shot on the court that they were afraid of hitting. They didn't run around their "weak" wing, because they don't have any. They may prefer one over the other, but they'll hit a line from either wing. Really fun!!! I wish them both well and tons of success in 2024!

    Insane match. Well done Winston! Karue's quality really shone through as he fought through the deficit early on. Govind's returns were again world class, just got outplayed by K's strength and accuracy towards the end. Full respect to both players, congrats to Karue. And Winston, take a bow - you put together a superb tournament. Looking for a bigger one next year!

    This was awesome and super high level from both guys. What impressed me most, was Karue was being completely outplayed in the first 5 games but he slowed his game down and used his experience to claw his way back into the set. Govinds game is so explosive and he's so sharp and quick onto the ball that he must be very difficult to play as he rushes you so much. Thanks for putting this tournament on Winston as it was awesome. Happy Newyear guys and here's to an amazing 2024🎉

    The hitter versus the mover. Usually the player who forces the other player to cross over in playing style to play his or her game will win the match. Karue has such a natural placement attacking game that even when he is off a little he still seems to prevent his opponents from getting comfortable enough to attack. Govind amazing leg split ball retrieving on both wings! Karue devastating side spin inside out down the line backhand winners! Great match guys! Thanks for putting on the show!

    I think Govind might have an edge on pure talent / athleticism but Karue has an edge on strategy, focus and the mental game. I'm guessing that Karue's experience playing at a pro level has given him a chance to develop these skills that Govind has yet to see still being in college.

    Govind overwhelmed Karue at the beginning with his explosive movement and shotmaking. Once Karue found his groove from the ground, and with some clutch serving, he was able to wear down Govind. A great match from both sides.

    Govind is a monster player, will definitely enjoy watching his progress. He has amazing pace, serve, return, gets everything back. At 5-0, I thought Karue was cooked, but he found a way to take away Govind's relentless rhythm of painting lines by hitting deep, heavy balls, and changed his pattern of play. Great win Karue, will be fun seeing Govind on the tour as well.

    Man! One of the best matches i've seen on the channel. At first i think karue was overconfident with his "good to go" mid power shot and govind was countering it with bombs, he was really confortable with that speed and owning the match. Then all my respects to karue's mental strenght and experiencie, he didnt loose focus and keep up with the score, i think that demoralize govind and gave him the match finally. Awesome match, i learn a lot everyday with this kind of matches!
