AtomRC Dolphin FPV - Shepherds to Cotter in formation

Ойын-сауық

A slightly bumpy but beautiful morning cruising from Shepherds Lookout to Cotter Dam with DCW... 40km of ground covered during this flight.
I was also doing the first flight with my DIY 26650 - 5400mah Li-Ion packs, once again building them as 2x 2S packs and connecting them in series (one in the front, one in the back) for 4S power in order to keep the plane balanced with a GoPro in the nose. The Vapcell batteries did okay; however, the volts did seem to sag more halfway through their capacity compared to the Molicel P42A 21700-4200mah I normally use. Maybe this is normal for high capacity batteries and I don't need to worry...
The extra capacity did mean 410gm batteries, compared to 298gm with the Molicel packs, so quite a bit heavier, resulting in a faster landing approach. That's about 27% more weight, for 22% more capacity. Hmm.

Great job Zac! Tricky approach especially with the extra weight and the battery alarm screaming as you came close! You have that Dolphin tuned so nicely and the shots are just ultra smooth and fun to kick back and watch. Also gives me a benchmark to hopefully get mine flying equally smooth. Thanks for posting!

The GoPro hypersmooth does wonders! For me, dropping INAV Roll P=3 got rid of roll jitters, while a good dose of Roll I-term=14 keeps it in line, then Roll D-term=12 to smooth things out.

Nice. How did you find the set up you were running. I'm considering ordering two tonight. One for 6s speed runs and another for just efficient cruising and long range. What's your efficiency and flight times like? Cheers. And greetings from the UK.

Even with the weight of the GoPro, my dolphin is happy to cruise at 5A, so the Molicel P42A 21700 4200mah 4S (298gm) that I normally use are good for 40 mins if I take it easy. I often fly in tricky places to land so heavier batteries are not ideal, but the plane handles them fine. Next time I want a new battery pack I might try to get the new Molicel P45B. Using 2507-1750kv and hqprop 7045 two blade.
