    GREAT VIDEO! I just ordered an Atomos monitor and wasn’t sure on how to mount it but I did find a less expensive setup. Looks like SMALLRIG may have redesigned their mount and is now capable of 360 degree turn using the cage setup.

    Don’t ever consider mounting your vdo monitor or recorder on the camera’s hot-shoe! That was never meant for it but audio mics and flashes.

    I don't see why the plate is a benefit. I hate the hot shoe screw down. I use the Small Rig setup you showed and love it. You can always get it around as a selfie by turning it around.

    There are quite a few nice mounts on the market. The Atomx is very limited since it's locked at one height. A smallrig Magic arm does more and costs a lot less. Atomos priced that at the goofy level!

  • @ChrisSchieritz

    Hey dude how's it going, do you think the Atomx mount would be the best option if not the strongest option to pair with the new Shinobi 7 inch monitor with it's dual batteries?

  • @VideoGizmology

    @VideoGizmology

    2 жыл бұрын

    Probably not the best or strongest option for a Shinobi 7 inch with dual batteries. A monitor that heavy requires a bigger rig to support the weight with a magic arm attached to sturdy handle if going handheld. If you're on a tripod, put the monitor on a separate light stand with a longer HDMI cable. I think the Atomx mount is best with a 5 inch monitor or less.

    Yeah that Atomos X thing is pretty legit. If you have the opportunity to buy it again, would you do it or try something else? I'm planning on picking up a Atomos Shinobi 5 for my pre ordered Sony A7IV. Haven't bought the monitor yet as I'm still browsing but I feel like Atomos is the way to go.

    If I had the opportunity to buy the Atomos monitor mount again, I probably wouldn't if it stayed at $100. There must be cheaper versions of this by now that are almost the same quality by other manufacturers. You can't go wrong with this Atomos mount, but I still think it's too pricey for what it is.

  • @VideoGizmology

    @VideoGizmology

    The atomx is more low profile, but it's very pricey. If you're just starting out as a filmmaker, don't get the Atomx. Get something cheaper. But if you are intermediate or professional, the Atomx is worth it.

    @@VideoGizmology Yeah ive been filming for over 8 years now and I need new monitor mounts anyways. I have the smallrig cage so I either have to use the nato rail or the screw but need to know if its right thread to have it centered if that makes any sense. I have to spend $170 jus on the two mounts for it to work with my cage and jus the hot shoe without the cage.

  • @VideoGizmology

    @VideoGizmology

    I've been happy with my smallrig nano rail mount on the smallrig cage. So if you already have a smallrig mount and you'll always use your cage, then stick with smallrig. I bought the Atomx because I use my Ninja V on multiple cameras that don't all have cages, so it was more convenient for me.

  • @VideoGizmology

    @VideoGizmology

    3 жыл бұрын

    Nope. Mine is always secure. Make sure you align the edge of the plate to the edge of your monitor, like I show in the video. You might have also lost the plastic washer on the mounting screw. If that's the case, you'll have to get a replacement. That washer added more tension over the connection.

    @@VideoGizmology thanks for answering. The connection between the monitor and the quick release plate is secure (as secure as it can be). But the connection between the mount and the cold shoe of my cage even after tensing the wheel a lot stills wobbles significantly

  • @VideoGizmology

    oh, got it. yeah, mine does wiggle a little when I'm using the Ninja V + SSD + bigger Sony battery. When I decreased the weight of the Ninja V by using a V mount and DC tap, the wiggle wasn't as bad.

    Influenced by this review, I bought the Atomx monitor mount and definitely DIDN'T like it. It's sturdy, but has a couple of unsolvable issues: first, it's wether too tight (then the cold shoe loses tension), or not tight enough. It's been almost a year, and I simply couldn't really figure out a perfect balance for all the three screws you have to tighten up ALL the time (maybe it's me, but, even so...). Also, for such a way-too heavy and pricey piece such as a monitor, the cold shoe is definitely not as reliable as a NATO mount or others, specially because it gets loosen often because of issue #1. Thirdly, it makes my rig too high! Loose, not reliable, swaying all the time... Not good for me. I'm definitely trying something else, such as the 2903B
