If your confuse with the movie, it’s because it was originally supposed to be a series of pilot episode for a Atlantis tv show, even though I am not a fan of the sequel compare to predecessor, I just wish I get to see more of the characters in a tv show.

I heard the same thing and honestly, they should’ve kept this as a series. It would’ve been better. I don’t really hate the sequel but it sadly can’t hold a candle to the first film.
So, this was originally three pilot episodes for an _Atlantis_ TV series that got dropped because the movie flopped at the box office, causing an actualsequel to be canceled. Rather then let the episodes go to waste, they packaged them into a direct to DVD sequel film. It was a common strategy for ungreenlit Disney TV shows and explains why the three acts aren't connected very well. But each of them is still fun to watch. My favorite is the Wild West one.
During the 1990s & early 2000s, some of the direct to video Disney sequels were treated as pilots for tv series for the films. Atlantis was 1 of them, but it never got made, which is ashame since this idea of the cast globe trotting & seeing how Atlantis & it's people interact with the modern world would have been cool to see.

not so much "treated as pilots" more like, well we made the pilots, they got rejected, let's release them as a movie

Agreed. There were plans to do an episode that would crossover with the awesome Disney animated series Gargoyles. That would have been so cool.

This wasnt a pilot, this was basically a series of episodes they had already animated but when they saw the box office returns were not as good as they hoped for they cancelled its production but since they had already produced some of the episodes they just decided to compile them as one direct to dvd movie so they can earn at least some of the wasted investment back.

@@matthewmckinnon-gray9957 That's right, Greg Weisman was tapped to write for this show that never was, so naturally, one of his ideas was writing a new chapter in the saga of Demona's feud with the Canmore family; Team Atlantis would encounter Demona and the latest Hunter in Notre Dame.
@matthewmckinnon-gray9957

@@christopherwall2121 And then he brought the Hunter from the scrapped episode into the Bad Guys mini series from the 2000s. He also had Demona retrieving a glowing blue crystal from the wreckage of the praying gargoyle in the Gargoyles comics that was published around the same time. Makes me wonder if he’s going to use any Atlantis tie ins in his new Gargoyles comic book.
Rule of thumb, if it's got three unconnected stories like this, it's a compilation of episodes for an unsold tv show. Yes, there are MULTIPLE "movies" Disney has made like this.

@@TimotheeReacts That one was basically the only one that actually went to series. The Tarzan TV show was pretty fun; incorporated more stuff from the Tarzan books, like Queen La and the underground valley of Pellucidar; also had them occasionally meet historical figures like Theodore Roosevelt.

Kida:What you needed was a glass case to protect it! Me:Oh now she gets it!
I actually genuinely really love this movie. It isn't nearly as good as the original, but I think it has a lot going for it. I still wish they had made the Atlantis TV series this was supposed to springboard off of; it would have been really good, I think. Glad you took the time to check it out, Tim!

I personally have similar feelings of the movie. Yeah it's nowhere as good as the original, that movie is just near perfection to me as a die heart Atlantis Lost Empire fan. But the sequel pilot movie had some interesting ideas and story to expand the universe. To bad it like the original didn't do to well to get it's own tv show.
Too bad the first Atlantis movie failed at the box office and We couldn't explore this world properly to see more of these characters that had a better ending.
Trivia: Tom Wilson voiced Carnaby in this film. Wilson is best remembered as Biff Tannen in the Back to the Future (1985) movie trilogy that starred Michael J. Fox. Fox was the voice of Milo Thatch in the first movie Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001). The final film of Florence Stanley; she died of a stroke months after production ceased.
This sequel was originally a show but Disney tell to turn it into a movie they have to Combine two episodes into a Movie
I loved the idea of this traveling the world to tackle different legends in association with Atlantis I wish there was a series like this.
Originally, Disney was developing a sequel titled Shards of Chaos, but it was abandoned as the first failed at the box office.
Fun fact:When Mr.Whitmore mentioned “Asgard”, I legit thought that this movie was related to Thor, specifically Marvel’s Thor.
This edited "sequel" consists of three animated shorts, originally intended to be three episodes of a never-completed series called Team Atlantis. But we already know how that turned out.

A very unique depiction and portrayal of the giant cephalopod.
Int re sting fact: Mole actually comes from, perhaps not a WEALTHY family, but a very well-too-do one. Someone put out some videos with these characters backstories, and Moles is definitely one of the most interesting.
Odin is a savage in this movie.
Fun fact, those Lava Dogs in a way were in the first film originally for a deleted sequence. Except it was just the one, was giant and called a “Lava Whale”. Killed a whole lotta of the non-main character crew.
Fun fact: For this sequel, Ratchet from Ratchet and Clank voices Milo 😊
I feel like I'm going to regret saying this, but, Kida looks GOOD as a Valkyrie.
Every time I hear J.A. Taylor in this movie, I can't help but feel like I'm hearing Spider-Man.

I always simped for this. I never cared about the quality of the film, so long as I kept getting more Atlantis. The music of the first one is still the best I've heard from the Mouse. Kira is still my favorite disney "princess". Sadly it seems, the Mouse wants to forget it and sweep it under the rug.
Tarzan and Jane came from a seuccesful Tarzan TV show, called “The Legend of Tarzan.”.
It's a good movie. Great choice 👌. Basically loved the climax of the film
Gotcha! Your title about this movie having "three stories" reminded me of the one video game ("Resident Evil 6") which has four unique campaigns, but their perspectives were interconnected at many points but all share a common topic.
Great job Tim I knew you would react to the sequel🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Frost giant, my friend, that’s not a guardian it’s a frost giant!
I actually grew up with this sequel. Bc it was on Netflix for a hot minute when I was a kid. I don’t even remember most of my childhood bc I have a bad memory . Sometimes.
"There's trouble on the surface." Considering the first movie took place in 1914, the year WWI began, (which doesn't make sense why Rourke's men had gas masks, as poison gas hadn't been invented yet) part of me was thinking, "Oh crap, is Milo and Atlantis going to get involved in WWII?" Imagine if the Nazis and the Communists found Atlantis simultaneously and fought each other in order to possess the crystals?
In 14:50 there should be scene (but it got deleted) when the baby shows Kraken tentacles. It's cool and creepy at the same time
Obby is the most adorable lavadog I've ever seen!
I honestly had no idea that a second movie existed
I really like the spooky feel to this one compared to the action/adventure of the original. It was especially entertaining when I was in my early teens, as I liked spooky things, but was too easily scared for actual horror. This movie and the 14th and 15th episodes of Rugrats: All Grown Up ("Interview with a Campfire", parts 1 & 2, were the length of a short movie together) were my usual halloween picks.
That's another one off my list
I think there was an alternative scene with the baby in the first part being a tiny kraken

Some Disney sequels were pretty good
This definitely had potential had it been able to. Would’ve been a fun series to explore what the leftovers of Atlantis (before it’s sinking) tech and culture on the surface and so on.
You are correct in your observations. This was originally a pitch for a TV series. However, the producers just couldn't get the backing or funding to go forward with the project. They would end up cobbling the three pitch episodes (pilot, important info drop, and finale) together into a straight to home video sequel. I would have loved a series of this considering a few of the movies from Disney's experimental era did. I feel like it was a real loss for Disney seeing just how much of a cult classic it has become, but it is hard to put out such a risk when the original didn't do amazingly at the box office which isn't super shocking since it came out the same month as the original The Fast and the Furious, Moulin Rouge!, and Laura Croft. Not to mention Shrek and Pearl Harbor came out in May that year, and Legally Blonde, Planet of the Apes, and Cats & Dogs came out that July. It was a tough year full of blockbusters and sequels, and unfortunately, Atlantis just fell by the wayside.
I saw a deleted version of this. The woman who is holding the baby is a kraken baby.
Yeah, I actually liked it, would've been good to see a series of it, worked pretty well with the Lilo and Stitch series being born from Stitch The Movie
I remember watching this sequel on 📀 from blockbuster, when I was a kid. Also, I find this movie similar to Tarzan and Jane.

The animation looks so much different from the first movie but still good tho
Man, the quality of the sequel really dropped
The Leviathan and the Kraken are sea monsters from different mythologys the Leviathan comes from old Hebrew text kraken from old Norwegian myth. Good thing its classic Disney movie from when the company was good cause if it was more in line with real life Kida’s father would have been 💯 right there would be a never ending wave of warmongers from various nations invading Atlantis to get the Crystal once they reveal themselves.
In a arcade game I usto play the first boss was a octopus called the kraken and the leviathan was a megalodon
It's more like scooby doo but with Atlantis stuff
Yes, It was supposed to be parts of a movie. HOWEVER. With the stories that were used I think Disney blended it all together excellently. At first you have the opening with destruction, a mysterious force killing humans left and right. It doesn't look familiar but the characters seem to think it's connected. Meanwhile we get a little bit of lore & uncertainty about ancient Atlantis. With the first enemy defeated, it seems that everything would go back to normal. However, seeing the power of a rogue Atlantean creation obviously guilt-trips Kida. And then we get more weirdness, which starts hinting at how there's a LOT deeper lore than we know of. The second adventure shows how successful Atlantis was when mingling with other civilizations, and shows that it was once previously *possible.* And it also does something VERY important to the story. The whole sandstorm pack and Ashton Carnaby was just there for the action. The real plot device was Chakashi, being a mentor figure to Kidagakash (notice how the names are similar?), and proving to her that coexistence was possible. Finally, we leave the light work behind as we chase Gungnir to Iceland, and thus the adventure comes full circle. Notice how Atlantis and Iceland are connected. The Shepherd's Journal was found in Iceland at the beginning of the first movie, now there's an ancient superweapon back in Iceland in the hands of Hellstrom. Iceland is also the entrance to Muspelheim, and Asurter's connection to Midgard. Finally, the references to Ragnarok were excellent, with Odinn and his two ravens living in Asgard, which was guarded by Fenris and a Jotunn. With the heroes having to fight literal gods, and Kida's Atlantean heritage being the only thing that could defeat them, the future of her people lies in her hand. More accurately, how she chooses to wield Gungnir. What's funny is that Kida does actually parallel Brunnhilde (Odin's daughter) in certain aspects. As the first adventure ended with resurrecting Atlantis, the second ends with the decision to raise it.
This would've been great fully fleshed out.
If the animation seems off, as others have said, this was a package film of episodes for a dropped series follow up.
How Emperor's New Groove apparently got a high school spinoff show, and this almost series didn't get a globetrotting all ages action show baffles me. Yes, Emperor's New Groove was good, butt Kronk's New Groove was already pushing it. Meanwhile this is drowning in lost potential! Sure, quality took a hit since these are test episodes for a weekly show, but this could have been a strong contender in the lineup to keep older kids and teens engaged!
Sweet
