The tradition about naming has to do with infant mortality used to be high, so people waited for 100 days before a child was named, lest to jinx them, by then the child was likely to live. People don't wait for 100 days to name their children anymore. In the case of pandas, their babies are fragile so they are named after 100 days.

No, it’s not Xi Lan, it’s Po, a female originally mistaken as male, born November 3, 2010. Xi Lan is an older brother born August 30, 2008. Robin Roberts did say in the beginning of the video that the “baby panda was born back in November,” meaning November of 2010.

He’s dirty and shivering Panda nannies do a better job 😮
