Atlanta Police Violently Arrest Emory Students & Faculty to Clear Gaza Solidarity Encampment

Support our work: www.democracynow.org/donate?c...
As a wave of student protests against Israel’s war on Gaza continues to spread from coast to coast, schools and law enforcement have responded with increasing brutality to campus encampments. One of the most violent police crackdowns took place at Emory University in Atlanta on Thursday, when local and state police swept onto the campus just hours after students had set up tents on the quad in protest against Israel’s war on Gaza as well as the planned police training center known as Cop City. Police used tear gas and stun guns to break up the encampment as they wrestled people to the ground, and are accused of using rubber bullets. Among those arrested were a few faculty members. We hear from two of the arrested professors: Noëlle McAfee, chair of the philosophy department, and Emil’ Keme, professor of English and Indigenous studies. We also speak with Palestinian American organizer and medical student Umaymah Mohammad, who describes how Emory has repeatedly suppressed activism on campus since the start of the war in October, and says law enforcement in Georgia work closely with Israeli authorities as part of a police training exchange. “We no longer accept our tuition dollars and our tax money going to fund an active genocide,” she says.

Look at the types of states - from democracy over totalitarian to communist. USA belongs to democracy type. (UK as Constitutional monarchy as well.) The Constitution establishes a federal democratic republic form of government. That is, we have an indivisible union of 50 sovereign States. It is a democracy because people govern themselves. The United States is a representative democracy. This means that our government is elected by citizens. Here, citizens vote for their government officials. These officials represent the citizens' ideas and concerns in government..

I totally agree and that’s just for standing on the grass and it took a year of people who were just supposedly trespassing standing on the grass or walking inside the capital peacefully even when Capital police officers let them come in the door, until a federal judge in DC said these people had no idea that the areas were for no trespassing because there were no signs, etc. etc. and the US Capitol is the peoples house and the ones arrested for simply just trespassing inside. The Capitol were allowed in or the doors were open before and they didn’t break windows. Therefore, with that ruling over 1000 people had to be released from the DC jail and their charges dropped and a couple of people of course that broke windows probably with USA flags remained arrested and the ones who got into a fight with some DC police only did so because the ones they were doing nothing started getting shot with plastic bullets and sprayed with tear gas for no reason at all. It made no sense because these people were standing outside on the grass with their signs or flags chanting USA or stop the steel and all of a sudden tear gas in plastic bullets are flying at them and you bet they’ve got pissed off and they were pushing the police around.. yet, when officer, Chauvin had his trial in Minneapolis, all the people were rioting around that area, and they were throwing bricks at police and glass bottles and jumping on them, and Nancy Pelosi, and the mayor in Minneapolis told the police that they could not use to your ass or pepper spray, and they cannot use their weapons or plastic bullets! what??? Why do criminals and Nazis get pacified when they are the biggest bullies? It’s not right and this is not the America I was born in Nor America. I grew up in at all.

It is hard to find a time when there haven't been any bad chapters. First, it was the massacre of the first nationals. Then it was slavery. Then mobsters ruled the city streets. Then there was the great depression. The US finally entered the war against fascism but only because the Japanese blindsided them. The wait made things so much worse. And then there were the civil rights problems. And since then it's all been a global warming cover-up and corporate entities usurping the military complex to support the neo-con/neo-lib theft of foreign resources, specifically oil, leading to a really messed up Middle East. The corporate-run US establishment has been causing a lot of societal problems at home and abroad. And now you have a SCOTUS controlled by the corporate-run, Christo-fascist Heritage Foundation who are blatantly aiding a traitor to not only survive a trial but also keep in the race for POTUS. The first time was stupid. But to let him in again will be fatal for the US. Whilst the right wing constantly pushes the BS that China is somehow a problem the real enemy is within.

The United States military drafted approximately 1.9 million people into the military during the Vietnam War from 1964-1973. What about all them who were forced to fight that came back to people calling them baby killers, spitting on them, and much worse. You support that too. Funny how there's such a double standard. Always blame the soldier, but never the guy behind the desk making the war. How sad.

They protect these monsters, and now, PBS is sponsoring programs to bring terrorists here, to the US. Tell me, why won't Egypt allow them in? How about Iran? Pakistan? The UAE? No one wants these child ra**sts anywhere near them, yet Biden tells them to come through our Southern border. Last year we had a state protest at Florida colleges and universities in support of LGBTQ because in Florida evidently culture wars, banning books, and removing women's rights to their reproductive health care seem to be what they care about while we need real help. I supported the 50 students who protested peacefully for an hour. They carried signs, said mantras of support for all students to be able to live and be citizens of the state, and there was no violence and real support from fellow students. I marched with my students to support them and the legal process. But, we didn't have community planners or other outside forces to come in and it was purely a student run movement, done legally, and no one was hurt or harmed during the process. The First Amendment right i cludes freedom to protest as part of the rights we have as citizens of America. There are plenty of right wing protestors snd crowds out there. And many of those have resulted in violent events. Gee January 6th wasn't a peaceful protest.

Burn down buildings threats. Physical threats. Racist terrorist threats. Out of control law enforcement using a heavy hand. Violence against law enforcement. Why I never take a side, when they are all acting wrong. Why don't they load up on buses and go march and protest on D.C.? The source! They have the"Freedom" to do that.
