For those of you new to NASCAR through 1998 PIR & AMS were the last 2 races of the season. Davey had an A+ season & the points lead but had a early DNF. Kulwicki had to not only finish better than Elliott but lead the most laps. AK got 1 more lap led than BE = AK won the Championship by ONLY 5 POINTS. In contrast Dale Sr. in 1994 beat 2ND PLACE Mark Martin by 444 points for the Winston Cup. And the rest of the field well ....

Agreed the '92 finale on the old configuration had so much going on: - The King's Last race - Gordan's first race - Davey Allison's unfortunate crash coming up short - and of course the battle between Kulwicki and Elliot. I would say this '01 race is that one-in-a-generation wins just like the '92 race.

No way in Hell. The Hooters 500 at Atlanta in 1992 is considered by many as the greatest race of all time. The King's last race. Jeff Gordon's first race. Davey Allison was the point leader going into the race. Several drivers had a shot at the title. Alan Kulwiki lead one more lap than Bill Elliott giving him the Championship as a Car Owner and Driver. Davey and Alan die the very next year. You are WAY off on this one.

This was a great finish, only thing that would have made it better would be if DW wasn't so damn focused on the slow car

    Disagree. 1992 was the best.
