To stop the teams from losing on purpose so they can get higher draft picks. A couple of years ago whenever u tried to watch regular season after the trade deadline, at least half of the matches were already decided bcs 1 team was tanking. Thats why play-in happened. Even if u r at 12th spot, u can go for the 10th spot, made the playoffs and go for the chip. Same logic.

Spurs got the 8th pick from the jakob trade. 4th pick is about right for what their record was. Spurs are just playing their cards right.
