I've been that route many times and am always shocked that so many international flights still land at Terminal E, forcing passengers to walk the miracle MILE(s) to get to Customs in Terminal F. On the bright side, the exercise is quite welcome after so many hours flying across the pond.

Isn’t Terminal F pretty much international carriers that fly in & out of that terminal? Lufthansa, Emirates and ANA Etc. Terminal E is Delta’s terminal for over seas departing & in bound delta flights?

So that way Delta over the pond flights depart from their own terminal & the Other has enough gates available for the British airways, Qantas, Qatar,Emirates, Korean air airlines? Should be that way if not haha

I am also going to USA for the first time.. and i am also going to go to tampa… so after the bagage claim we directly go to the left and re-check in all my lugage? Or we need to move to the other terminal?

@@clararesmed1783 You'll find baggage claim directly after immigration. You pick up your luggage and simply follow the signs for 'connecting flights', you'll end up going left after some doors where you can re-check your luggage. If your luggage is tagged for Tampa as the ultimate destination, it's just a simple drop-off. If not, you can recheck your luggage there, too. You then go through security again (TSA) and you'll end up in concourse F. From there you just follow the signs to which ever concourse your connecting flight leaves from. (That'll generally be a different concourse, but there is a screen right after TSA where you can check your flight). It is really easy and I'll be doing it myself again on December 6th 🙂

Thank you for this video. It will be my first trip to USA. Let me ask. I'll need to wait more than 9 hours in a connection there in Atlanta. At the end I go to the left to connection flights or I can go to the right and back later? Or I go to the right to check my baggage and then I can go outside the airport???

So needed - headed to Rome first time ever to Europe this July - so helpful as to what to expect. I plan on getting global entry - but I know we still have to go to the same places

You do know that Global Entry is a lengthy process, right? Getting conditionally approved is a piece of cake, getting the interview done is where you'll run into a brick wall 🙂

@@ganymedes62 I’ve heard of several horror stories about that. There is a place for where they do the “interview upon arrival” at ATL and I’ve seen people sitting there, but I don’t have any experience with it. I only have TSA Pre-Check and I just stand in line waiting with everyone else at Customs.

@@bozy106 I've tried 'enrollment on arriva'l back in November in Tampa, but they had me wait. After over two hours and a friend of mine waiting for me in the arrivals hall, I had enough. Of course, the situation was special as Orlando airport had closed down and Tampa was getting in all the diverted flights. I've now got an interview scheduled right here at Schiphol airport, so I'm a happy camper 🙂

@@ganymedes62 my only experience with Schipol was a 55 minute layover where I was transferring from a Schengen to a non-Schengen flight. Needless to say there was a lot of jogging going on to make that flight!

According to US Customs and Border Protection they have customs pre-clearance in several foreign locations. The CBP website has them listed as Dublin and Shannon in Ireland; Aruba; Bermuda; Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates; Nassau in the Bahamas; and Calgary, Toronto, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, Victoria, and Winnipeg in Canada. Since you went through pre-clearance in Toronto you didn’t have to battle ATL’s Customs/Passport Control.

@@bozy106 Yep 👍🏻 I know, that took a load off my shoulders. However, my wife arrived from Tokyo in 2020, she had a direct flight to Atlanta and went through the long hurdle getting to customs. Funny thing, for our honeymoon, we had to go all the way to the international terminal from terminal south just for a domestic flight. How did that happen

When are the bags checked? I always thought your bags had to be checked and gone through. When does this happen?

If you are arriving on an international flight yes. At 11:20 you can see where you either go left (for connecting flights) or right (if Atlanta is your final destination)

Will be arriving there soon and I’ve told my partner to just take a seat cos I could be a WHILE 😅 plenty of walking after a long haul flight

International flights either arrive at one of the E gates or F gates. If it’s an F gate the walk isn’t as long. Just cross your fingers and hope for the best! I hope you have a great trip!

This video gave me a perspective as to how annoying international connections can be when you have a stretch schedule, I have a flight from Costa Rica to South Carolina in February with a 2-hour layover in Atlanta which I hope will be enough for me to go through customs, then TSA and finally make it to the gate on time for my next flight. Btw, How long did it take you to go through passport control?

In total it took me about 20 minutes but the line consistently and steadily moved. The good part about ATL is the the security line you will go through as a connecting international traveler should be a little quicker than the average TSA line.

I think it took me a total of about 20 minutes to go through immigration, customs and TSA, most of which was spent waiting for my luggage to arrive. But then, I do have Global Entry, so I could use a kiosk to get through immigration and the TSA Pe-check line to get through security (even though it was VERY quiet at TSA). From entering the immigration hall, it took me probably a little over half an hour to get to my connecting gate, which was in concourse A 🙂 I assume you have a US passport, so at immigration you can use the generally shorter line for those with a US passport.

Really helpful video. I flight to Altanta from London next week with a connecting flight to Greenville...Just a quick question, the walk to the passport control, everyone walks that same path correct? Then go to the appropriate lines depending on country of origin for your checks etc and i assume baggage re-check is when you go left for connecting flights? My flight to Greenville has a 2hr 8min lay over so im thinking I should be okay after watching this!

Everything you said is correct. Everyone does walk the same path. Baggage recheck is literally a stones throw away from the doors when you go left for connecting flights. Also, two hours is plenty of time for any connection at ATL.

Oi@@jefersonoliveira1857 . O aeroporto de Atlanta para mim é o melhor que estive até agora. Bem facil de localizar o portoes de embarque. O trem leva certinho aos portoes. A imigração foi super simpatica e rápida. Claro que se for a primeira vez em solo americano eles fazem mais perguntas. Depois de passar pela imigração vc pega a mala despachada. Logo em frente as esteiras tem um corredor onde vc precisará passar para fazer a conexão (que é quase em frente as esteiras). Lá tinha uma equipe que recolhia as bagagens para despacha-las. Só entreguei ao rapaz . Super simples. Agora certifica antes de embarcar no Brasil que a companhia já fez todos os check in dos aeroportos. Assim é so entregar as malas ao pessoal . Obs: já li relatos de que teria que colocar numa esteira para despachar, mas esse não foi o meu caso. Estive lá em setembro de 2023 e para mim foi este precedimento. Outra dica. Já tenha em mãos o endereço onde vc irá ficar, porque a minha cia Delta me pediu tres vezes para informar o endereço completo onde iria ficar. Não pediu comprovante. Mas tive de informar antes de embarcar no Brasil e duas vezes lá.

Oi@@jefersonoliveira1857 . Sim. Vc desembarca pela F ou E. Eu não lembro o caminho a certo de como cheguei, mas se não me engano desci uma escada que levava a um corredor onde havia o trem. Mas é super facil de encontrar. Tem placa mostrando a direção e eu mesmo assim, perguntei a uma pessoa (piloto) e ele me mostrou a direção. Mas em outras ocasiões perguntei a lojinhas e quiosques de lanches e eles sempre ajudam. Fica tranquilo. Esse aeroporto é bem facil de se localizar. As pessoas são bem solicitas. Que lembro tem um lado em que o trem vai de gate A até D e depois outro lado que vai de D a F. Mas é bem facil se localizar la´. Mas é tudo no piso abaixo. Não tem como se perder.

At 11:24 would you happen to know that if you were connecting through Atlanta with Toronto as your final destination, you have to walk the almost 1km distance, go through passport control, take your luggage with you and go the doors on the left and re-check them in? or is there a dedicated check-in process for connecting flights.

I am uncertain, but I do know that the several times that I have returned from international destinations that 100% of the passengers I was traveling with were herded towards passport control and had to go through it. If there is some other situation where you don’t have to do this I am unaware of it. Maybe someone with more knowledge on this can comment?…..

Passengers arriving on international flights into Atlanta will arrive at either Concourse E (E-Gates) or Concourse F (F-Gates). If you arrive at Concourse E the walk can be relatively long. If you arrive at Concourse F the walk is fairly short. Unfortunately there is no access to the Plane Train to get to international baggage claim which is immediately after Customs/Immigration.

In two weeks I’ll arrive at E7, have to go trough the passport control and get on a flight that leaves just 85 min later at B26. When I see this I know it’s going to be “fun”. The only pro that I have is that I’ll only use carry on luggage.

The slowest part will be the wait in line at customs/passport control (depending on how many international flights are arriving at the same time.) I’ve never had to wait more than 40 minutes or so however. The fastest part (thanks to the Plane Train) will be getting to B concourse where your departing flight leaves from. @@bozy106 Thanks for your answer. 40 minutes sounds good. Would you recommend to use the APC or talk to an officer directly? I’m traveling with ESTA. The fist time I was in America it took me two hours in the waiting line until I could talk to the officer. This one send me to another officer to get an extra long 2nd check which took one hour. Even when this was at Detroit airport it will always be on my mind.

Yes, there are elevators everywhere. That’s how they move the wheelchair assisted passengers around. Just look for them. I also have a short video on my channel about the elevators at ATL. Check it out!

I feel like they should have put in a small shuttle underground since it’s only two stops they could have used the same system the Detroit airport uses and they could have just eliminated the walkway put a small shuttle there and instead have the parallel domestic walkway between E and F that is deserted all the time be the international walk way instead. I walked from E to F one time just to kill time on a layover and legit I don’t think I saw anyone in the tunnel at all it was so bizarre.

@@kennymackie4518 if you have a connecting flight you will pick up your bags, leave the baggage pickup area, and then immediately re-check your bags just outside baggage claim. You will then be funneled back to a security checkpoint.

That walk is so needlessly long...I got off my flight from London to the exit at EWR in under 10 minutes..(excluding the CBP lines, and baggage wait)
