ATKM 179 - FOMOPhobia: Is Collecting Sustainable Post Covid!?!

Ойын-сауық

Look at us, getting TOPICAL!
But, we've GOT to ask:
-Is collecting SUSTAINABLE in today’s economy post-Covid?
-What’s the criteria for the pieces you “MUST” have/buy?
-Does FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) play a role in your spending habits, especially with the high-market vehicle and playsets (way to go, TVC Mos Eisley Cantina!)?
On ATKM 179, we'll also break down the latest in toy news (McFarlane! NECA! Cosmic Legions! GI Joe!) as usual!!!

FOMO is an issue for many. I’ve committed to my niche groove, and so far managed to stick to it, despite seeing many things I would like to add.

Great discussion gentlemen. Some real emotion coming out in the toy convos tonight. If anyone is so bold to dive deeper in a public forum, I think a good discussion would be about what drives our toy collecting to an unhealthy place. It's not just the FOMO, but that's an effective marketing strategy.

That’s a great point. Marketing scarcity and stock outs add to the illusion of FOMO

Correction, Haslab rattler when it comes to haslabs should be all new tooling for all aspects of it

When talking about the figure tears for the HAL rattler. We have to remember they’re not going to be repainting figures. It has to be all new tooling when it comes to Hazlet. At least that’s how they started. I’m not sure if they’re still sticking to it or not but it seems like they are. Great show, though guys love the channel.❤

The tooling allows for repaints down the road. Example: Glenda gave way for retro Scarlett yet we got Scarlett before Glenda

In regards to the O-ring, I don't think their time needs to be over. I'd argue that their playability might actually be higher to some degree over 6". I don't mean articulation, obviously, rather durability. Adults even end up breaking 6" out the box, I imagine a lot of kids don't have the patience to use a hair dryer. Plus they could fit a handful of o-rings in their pockets. I'm sure, no mater what, I'm nostalgic, they're my favorite thing to dabble with stop with. I'm happy there's people out there still making them.

I agree with the bulk of this statement. O-ring could see a huge comeback if done right

Baldy is 100% right about Bea Arthur. HasLabs are the only thing I get mild FOMO over. Anything else can be obtained through patience and/or saving. What are the odds Hasbro revives failed HasLab projects, given the propensity of safe reissues lately and all of the design/marketing data already sunk into those failed projects? They know how to sell a 1:12 Rancor now...

I’m gonna screenshot this so my wife and girlfriends can see I’m right for once. And yes, HasLabs are the ultimate FOMO which is why they always spike right at the end
