I like the neutral color and larger AFOV of the Cronus. And, I found the field flattener to be equal to or better than that of the BPO. However, the BPO was clearly the sharper of the two. It remains my Gold standard for evaluating all ten power binoculars that cross my path.

Concerning the question of the Cronus' eye relief, I put mine on the bench and measured it. From the eye cup rim to the point of focus, the distance is 15mm.

Oh, I neglected to tell you that the Cronus has seriously good control over glare/flare. I went momentarily blind rotating this unit toward the sun to force veiling flare. I was seeing blue for a full minute. Not the best maneuver but it revealed another great feature of the Cronus.

I was looking for a new set of 8x42's and after much pulling of hair and gnashing of teeth I decided on the Athlon Midas G2 8x42's. I could have gone with others, like the M7, Kowa's, etc., but I have been using my Athlons for birding since I got them I am so impressed. I like them because they just get out of the way and provide a great view, if that makes any sense. I am going to sell my old Monarchs ang get this set next. Thanks for the review 👍

Thanks for the great review! I've been down a rabbit hole on these binoculars. Do you think the eye relief is truly 19mm? Also, how easy does the diopter lock depress ? One gentleman on another site had problems with it moving when he bumped with his rifle. -Dave (on my wife, Carey's account)

My hands have gotten so shaky that 8x42 suits me well. 7x even better.

They are excellent but the eye relief is less than quoted,I’d guess its no more than 16mm.

hi David, this is Alex (Moscow) I bought the same one this summer, only under a different brand (Eyeskey). I like. but there is one defect, most likely it is the design of the binoculars, and not a specific sample. When focusing with the central wheel, diopter correction is not always effective, but it is very annoying.
