Ather Energy's CEO, Tarun Mehta, has officially announced on social media the development of a new family-oriented scooter and a more potent version of the 450X, both slated for release next year.
The family scooter, recently spotted during testing, exhibits a boxier design compared to Ather's existing scooters. Notable features include an apron-mounted headlight, foldable pillion footrest, and a front petal disc. Emphasizing comfort and spaciousness, the scooter is expected to feature an extended seat and a more expansive floorboard area. It is likely to share components such as the 2.9kWh capacity battery pack and LCD instrument console with the 450S. The launch is anticipated to commence with the LR (Low Range) version, followed by the HR (High Range) variant, with an estimated price tag of Rs 1.3 lakh (ex-showroom, including FAME 2 subsidy), expected in mid-2024. Positioned to compete with models like the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, and Hero Vida V1 Pro, this family scooter aims to cater to a broader customer base.
Concerning the upgraded variant of the 450X, Mehta mentioned that it will be more powerful and boast "best-in-class features." Envisaged to carry a 3.7kWh battery pack, the motor will likely be tuned for enhanced performance beyond the 6.4kW peak power output in the 450X's existing 3.7kWh variant. Anticipated features include cruise control and dual-channel ABS, addressing previous omissions. Transparent body panels, as per Mehta's recent post, may make a return in this new variant. Priced at approximately Rs 1.6 lakh (ex-showroom Bengaluru, including FAME 2 subsidy), with a Rs 10,000 premium over the current 3.7kWh variant, the launch is expected in early 2024. Celebrating Ather Energy's decade-long presence in the two-wheeler industry, this upgraded 450X variant is poised to mark a milestone in the company's journey.
