It looks awsome. Great job. Funny thing is i always thought they would be bigger....considering the hoplite marines size.

Thanks @Lusitani 😊. I know what you mean. I'm a stickler for scale and had to double, triple check that I had the scale correct 😉. So many depictions of triremes simply have the crew and hoplite marines way too small, making the vessel look much larger. Both trireme and hoplites are at 1:30 scale 😀

Fantastic work. The figures really help sell it after the build was complete. Have to wonder how you replicated all the framing. Was it by hand or did you use some kind of jig or even cnc cutting? Regardless lovely work.

I love it John, what a work of art. I would love to try and build something like this, where did you start? Do you cut the wood yourself?

  • @artofageofsail

Thank so much, appreciate your comments! I started, to keep me sane from a hectic work-travel environment, by building and creating things (all kinds of things) in the 90's. My better half bought me a kit and even though I enjoyed building from it, I noticed the limitations and shortcomings! So I figured I'll try to see what I can do and come up with myself. 911 happened around the same time and destroyed most of my engineering business, so I figured I' may as well stop travelling and start this new thing I enjoyed doing. Never looked back since. Yes, I do cut, plane and shape all of the wood myself but I do purchase and start with sheets of wood of all kinds; mahogany, cherry, maple, walnut, teak etc.

@@artofageofsail that is brilliant John. I love making things also although I don't get much time to do it but I find it very therapeutic. I was searching the other day and found a pdf of some plans for a Trireme that looks very similar but I don't think it has any patterns in it. I would love to get some time to try although I have very limited tools. Did you make the little figurines also?

@@GreenthumbsGarden The figurines were purchased. I rarely add figures, think they distract from a model (human eyes tend to gravitate to human likenesses), but in this case (both scale 1/30), they may have created some additional interest and show relative scale perhaps!?
