Atheist: Is There a Correlation Between Atheism And Being Butt Ug

This is a repost of the video "Atheist" I took from here: • Atheist
I liked the video drawing a correlation between Atheism and ugliness. It made me find a video called Atheist, showing a string of Atheists such as Angelina Jolie, Christopher Reeve, Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore who can hardly be considered Butt Ugly. Personally, I think Carl Sagan was hot when young.
My theory is that there is a correlation between being ugly and being reflexive. When you can't find pleasure fucking, you might try getting it thinking. And there seems to be a clear correlation between thinking and Atheism. And level of education and Atheism.

Great rebuttal. It was not really needed, but thanks. I had seen this video before, so I was glad that you used it.

I live in Brazil, and here most people are Catholics, and most Catholics are secular first Christian second. That means, most won't go with offensive things such as predicting Hell for non-believers. Which is actually the most unsettling religious behavior I come in direct contact with usually. In my personal religion, there is a special Hell for Hell preachers. It says that preaching Hell creates hellish karma.

I think that in a religious society, to become an Atheist a person will most likely have been subjected to some kind of pressure that made them think about existence. Normal people under normal circumstances will hardly think about existence, they'll just go on with what has been served. Ugly people are a set of people who are pressured, but not the only one. Very talented people are also under a lot of pressure, for standing out so much. Thus the (good looking) scientists and entertainers.

Angelina Jolie does not identify herself with any single religion, nor has she declared herself an atheist. The most direct statement Jolie is known to have made on the subject was reported by the website A.V. Club (associated with the online magazine The Onion), which asked a number of celebrities the question, "Is there a God?" and published the answers from 52 of them in a September 2000 feature story. Angelina Jolie gave the following answer

I guess since Atheism is so spreadout in France, Atheists in France will be a lot less tending to the fringe than in America, or even Brazil for that matter. Still, in Brazil's top universities Atheism is fairly common.

I am trying to recall just what Sir Francis Bacon-- the father of the scientific method (which all of the scientists shown in this video either used or still use)--said on the subject of Atheism in his essay "Of Atheism." Does anyone recall?

I didn't make the video, but I've checked around and found this: "I do not go to church anymore... I guess you might say I've come around to secular humanism, an obligation I believe all humans have to others and the world we live in."

Yes, I understand the video is more of a rhetorical argument then a logical one. It's for the shock value. My response to the Psalm quotation is that it is not talking about atheists at all. The Psalmist is complaining about Nebuchadnezzar, who showed no regards towards the God of Israel by destroying Temple in Jerusalem while no one from his entourage issued any kind of protest. This is how the Jews understand this verse. And since they wrote it...

"some of us do read and understand the Bible so you cannot just make up a lot of nonsense" It's actually the traditional exegesis for the Hebrew text, I'm surprised someone claiming to understand the Bible didn't recognize it.

"Science enslaves humanity as it makes humans chase a flawed concept of freedom for eternity." Nowhere have I heard prominent scientists argue that science leads to 'freedom for eternity.' With science, there is a relative enlightenment of human understanding but no need for a sense of liberty. If you're looking in science for the same freedom you claim to discover through religion, then you have missed the point altogether.

Strangely, this comment made it into my inbox. I can see from the All Comments indentation it was probably meant for playnine99. I think the argument "you have too much influence from" this or that to be lame though. If you are religious, then you are the one having too much influence from your fathers, your peers, etc.

"Creationist science is something which is very specific to America." I love America, and that's from the conservative side, and yet, I believe creationist science is one of the most embarrassing American phenomenons for the enthusiast.

"Thus the quote "there are no atheist in a fox hole."" This is a stereotype made up by religious people trying to picture how they'd react to impending death devoided of religious solace. But religion is not what trully inspire men to endure life and death. It's the small day by day pleasures such as breathing and eating plus the sense of continuity given by the next generations of children. An infertile world would spiral into chaos, religion notwithstanding.

"if a famous a scientist or actor is or was an atheist than there must be no God" That's not the point of the video by any stretch. The point of the video is that if we assume that Atheists are fools and accomplish nothing, then we'll deduce these scientists to be fools, which they obviously aren't, thus proving the premise false. We've reduced the premise to an absurd, thus it's denial must be right: Proof by reductio ad absurdum.

Why aren't religious people tired of being pwned on youtube? Atheist videos are usually insightful, thought provoking, and in the 5 star range. Religious videos are usually the same old boring, useless, crap arguments we've debunked time and time again, and are usually in the 1 star range. Have you noticed? Maybe there are more closet atheists out there than we thought.

Which of the good folks there were in fact believers? Hitler was a Roman Catholic involved with the Occult. Not an Atheist by any account. I'll agree on the Communist ones though. I'll credit those three with Atheistic genocyde. I'll be open, however, to questionings as to how Atheistic Marx actually was. How unreligious is really German irrationalism? It sounds a lot like magical thought to me. Bertrand Russel seems to have had some weird thoughts on war though.

"I suppose the point of your video is that you can be an educated fool!" It's not the point of the video, but it's a point you could raise against it. Bottom line, both sides are misquoting the Bible. The Psalm 14 isn't speaking about generic atheist fools. It's speaking about one specific fool who dared to deny Israel's election: Nebuchadnezzar.

Your view has already been proven to be invalid. The rest of the world is just waiting for you to move beyond denial into the rest of the greiving process. Why don't you make a vid of the religious equivalent except 100 times better? You can't, but it will be amusing if you try. And don't insult einstein by including him. This argument is patently devastating to your position on what atheists are, and calling it weak isn't going to change that.
