I often see this assumption reflected that the "true" religion must be one that the person knows about. Presumably many millions of people have lived and died never having even heard of Christianity, but people never seem to imagine that they themselves (and perhaps even all of humanity, past and present) might be in the same situation of not being at all aware of the truth.

@@CameronRiecker Well, that can cover a lot of ground. In all sincerity, what is the "Logic of Catholicism"? For instance, is it the idea that mankind is separated from God by an uncrossable gulf which results from an inherent sinful nature passed into each new generation via concupiscence? Is it the idea that humanity can do nothing to please God without faith in Jesus as their savior? Is it that both the Pope and the magisterium is capable of infallibility when deciding matters of faith and morals and that attaining salvation requires humanity to believe the Church's essential positions? Is it the insistence that the Bible is inspired by God which is grounded entirely in Catholicism's insistence in it's own infallibility? Or is it something else, or something additional?

@@blueglassdave That's a lot to cover in one post. Let's start here: *Minimal Facts for the Resurrection* All of these facts are supported by evidence outside of the New Testament. They are not in dispute among credentialed scholars - atheist, believers, agnostics. 1. Jesus was a real person who died from the effects of Roman crucifixion. 2. Shortly after Jesus’ death and burial, His disciples had numerous experiences which caused them to believe that Jesus was alive again. 3. Jesus’ disciples were transformed by (and willing to die for) their belief in Jesus’ bodily resurrection. 4. James, the doubting brother of Jesus, became a Christian after experiencing what he believed to be an encounter with Jesus whom James claimed had risen from the dead. 5. Saul, a Pharisee and persecutor of the early Church, became a Christian after experiencing what he believed to be an encounter with Jesus whom Saul claimed had risen from the dead. 6. The disciples’ accounts of their post-mortem encounters with Jesus were reported and recorded relatively soon after they allegedly occurred. Using the principle of Occam’s Razor, what is the simplest explanation that accounts for all six of these facts? "Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth." - Sherlock Holmes

The title should have read "Angry/rude atheist found comfort in Christianity", or probably more likely Nihilist is a more accurate term by how you described yourself before.

I'm an atheist but I actually take comfort in thinking nothing I does really matters. Also I don't have pride either and I understand why people are religious. Life is very hard for most people and life has been easy for me. I think I'm atheist because I hadn't had that "rock bottom" moment people have where they basically need to believe in something to justify their struggle. I don't care about what people think about me or if I'm successful. I have plenty of money and live in a house that is 10% my net worth. Basically I live in fear that something bad might happen to me because I'm "alone" without any sort of supernatural guidance. I see nice things and status items as a trap because it is tying up resources that I might need for an emergency some day. I guess maybe I see wealth as God.

I think I can see where you're coming from. It's maybe a bit of a nihilistic viewpoint, but if you don't hold a theistic worldview, nihilism is realism itself. It also holds to what The Bible says. In Matthew 19:23-24, it says: Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

@@agchains78543 The thing with me about not believing in God is that soon that will be the only sin I do regularly pretty soon. I'm getting married so that means I won't be having premarital sex anymore. I'll be married and more or less living a biblical life. I don't party or even drink and live a fairly boring life. I am a good neighbor and live around people with far less money than me so there is always opportunity to help. Anyway I just find it interesting that some day I might see Jesus and he will say "I hardly knew ye" because I lived too easy of a life to have my mind broken to make this fit into my brain. Right now it would seem there is a force field over it. I already pretend I'm Christian and Catholic actually. I've been going every week with my parents my whole life. However it is just like dungeons and dragons to me.
