Athearn Genesis HO Scale Amtrak P40 Review DCC Sound Vs. Kato Details
Ғылым және технология
In this video I will be reviewing the new Athearn Genesis P40DC with Tsunami DCC and sound. I will also be doing a side by side comparison between a Kato P42DC and the new Athearn Genesis P40DC.

Great video! Like the comparison of the Athearn versus the Kato. The run by was great with the sound and your layout scenery is nice.

Very nice model. I had a blue box version of this model from I think the late 1990s that apparently is the same mold as the current Genesis line, but not as well detailed or DCC compatible. Think I need to get one of these new ones!

Oh cool, I didn’t know they were the same molds. That’s interesting. These are definitely worth there price.

@@modelrailroadingthesouthwest yep, apparently it was the very last blue box model before the Genesis line. And because the locomotive is known as the Genesis in real life, it was sort of Athearn's pre-Genesis Genesis, lol.

@@bearzlla lol true. When I was little kid it confused me that these were called Genesis locomotives and there was Athearn Genesis.

@@modelrailroadingthesouthwest another update lol... So I bought this one, 824, from Trainworld the other day. It's an amazingly detailed engine. Athearn did a great job at the level of detail in this. I bought this because I've been applying to get hired by Metro North for the locomotive engineer position there. I'm currently a subway supervisor for MTA in New York, and I'm working on advancing my career a bit. The Metro North P32s are so hard to find, so I bought this P40 engine as a motivational tool to get myself where I want to go. I will drive these in real life, as well as in a layout lol.. Thanks again for the review!

I love to hear about everyone’s purchases and experiences! That’s cool, it’s definitely a model to speak about. I hope you get the positive as the engineer! That would be awesome. I have not seen any P32s before in HO scale. Definitely some good motivation with this model!
I’ll for sure be ordering 816

I definitely recommend them! Thank you for watching!
Kato historically got by for having great motors and easy to run locos. They were never known for their detail and the price you pay is insane factoring you have to attach stuff yourself.. I had loads of Kato in N Scale but I have nothing of theirs in HO on my main layout.

Yeah I agree with you. They do have great motors. Just not the best detail. I have some Dash 9s that have decent detail. They could still use a detail kit though.
Those are nice looking Locomotives

How do you attach the antennae that came in the bag?

I think you would have to drill a hole for that particular antenna.
