What does it take to go to satellite

@@ansaarurrasoolonlinetv4456 To stream using satellite? You'd have to contact a company that does that and provide them a video feed typically using SDI or Fiber. But it's going to cost you thousands of dollars.

Anyone watching this should take note that the sliding shelf would be better installed the other way up. The lip of the shelf should be pointing up to prevent things sliding off of it - side benefit, it gives the ATEM back some of its needed height space.

Love this, I have a Similar build I am finishing up but I used a 10ru rack without wheels. Big mistake, it is so heavy. Awesome video I love this kind of stuff.

Oh man yea I bet that was heavy!

Humbly I'd like to add, you will get better with each build. If you want a better insight into the finer details find someone who works in the gig freelance economy at your local civic center. The audio guys, video guys, lighting, and networking guys all have these little things they do that make all the difference. I worked with all of them for many years. Try some din rail with din rail adapters for those fmc's or really any networking device with metal casing. Beats those zip ties on so many levels. You can take the covers off, install the din rail adapter, and reinstall the cover. Beats paying commercial price for a similar quality device they upcharge just for the mounting ability. Also adds to your outside the box thinking. Good luck 👍 cheers 🍻

Yea cabling is a tough one to show because I can’t really get a camera inside the rack while doing it. For the most part it was only four hdmi cables, one for each of the three SDI to hdmi converters and then one to go from the atem to the multiview monitor. Everything else was just running power cords. It really wasn’t all that extensive. The gigabit switch on the back used the SDI/Cat6 combo cables I linked in the description to run power to the PTZ cameras and send a video signal back to the converter. That was pretty much all I did on this build.

I’ll be doing mine now thanks to you. I was expecting to see the final version. Also I thought you wil be including another panel with all the hdmi , audio inputs etc close the the back. If you did it please show us. If not, can you tell us why you didn’t do it? I was thinking on build something similar but in a taller case so I can include a drawer for mic, cables storage etc. Thank you so much for sharing this.

Hey Gerardo! There isn't much of a need for an I/O panel on the back because this client in particular is only going to be connecting 3 devices up via SDI to the 3 SDI converters on the back that are easily accessible. We've made it this way so they can upgrade and add more inputs later down the road but for now they are just using 3 (2 PTZ cameras and 1 laptop with SDI for a long distance). I'm sure you could easily find a taller case for a build like this but be prepared for it to be very heavy and bulky. If it's on a cart at all times then I wouldn't be concerned with weight but these cases themselves weigh a ton!

I don't see the fan unit listed in the parts list. Also, taking 5 minutes to add chapter markers to the video would make this much better.

Great question. I got heavy duty Velcro strips that are 2x4” from Home Depot and simply Velcro the atem to the sliding shelf. This way I can remove it if necessary but the Velcro was rated for 10lb per piece. With 20lb of Velcro hold I don’t think it’s going to come off unless we need to remove it. Great question. My audio contractor I use is actually doing a full custom buildout and most of the parts are back ordered so this client is going to use existing audio gear they already own for now.

Cool build. I would also consider investing in a drill and some wire cutters. :)

If you would insert sliding rack upside down, wouldn't you have better fit for atem? So it would use only one unit?

@Zephan Moses, at 38:02 you mention about how much space the shelf takes up in the U. Could you mount the micro converters to the under side of the shelf? Just thinking you've got all that space there going to waste. You could use that space for cables/converters etc.

Yea there's a lot of ways to save some space. To be honest I've torn apart and rebuilt this ten times since that initial build. I've actually completely changed my setup since that time based on how my livestreams have been running and what I've needed.

@@iamwillwatson I actually moved away from an all in one setup. I have a 6U shallow rack unit with a bunch of hyperdecks and converters but it's no longer everything in one case.

What would you recommend to power 3 BM BiDirectional converters? A 4 way USB hub? a 5 Volt switching power supply? Also, what if you also had a streaming bridge in there, would you power that the same way you power the BiDirectional converters? The converters are 2.5W consumption each with a 4.4 to 5.25V DC operational voltage. Whereas the streaming bridge has a 6W (max) power consumption with a 6 to 30V DC operational voltage. How would you recommend powering all these units?

The converters don’t take a lot of power so you could easily get a 4 port hub (just check the wattage rating). It would save on all the power bricks. Regarding the streaming bridge I would probably just plug it directly into the power conditioner that’s rack mounted on the bottom of the case. It has like 12 or 16 outlets depending on the model you get.

Hello Zephan, i was wondering if you ever travel with a rack like this by plane and what your experience is. Do you check it in as luggage and if so, do you use extra packaging to secure the case? Your videos are super helpful. Much appreciated!

Thanks for the question. I don't travel by plane with this type of setup. Typically if we're going that far, the team will have a truck take the equipment. We're currently getting ready to travel from Maryland to Texas and so everything will get loaded up in the box truck to get sent out there, the team will fly separately. I don't think I would ever risk flying with a rackmount plus it would be really heavy. Knowing how TSA handle's my bags I wouldn't want them near any of my gear.

Typically I bring a zoom live track L8 mixer and take that into the atem or I will more than likely hire my audio team I bring to most events to handle it and they’ll provide me an audio feed.

@@RaphaEntertainments I typically use a whole audio team. They bring their own audio mixer. We have events that sometimes require as many as 12 wireless microphones so it would not make sense to manage those using the atem. I think everyone’s needs will be different though. For live events I don’t think the person switching the show should be managing audio if you want it to be done well.

BMD Micro Converters get really hot during use so make sure that cable ties is enough? looks no pro

There’s a fan inside the rack unit. With that said, the converters heat up but they’re being tied to a big metal vented shelf. Not only does the metal shelf act as a heat sink but it allows for a lot of airflow. I have run converters like this all day without issues.

How much is the total cost on this setup? thnx

$3000-5000 depending on the build and what cameras you buy to go with it. All parts are listed in the description.

Zephan, I was watching this video and I thought you might want to know that KZread interrupted it every 2 minutes or less with a commercial, mostly from Liberty Mutual or B&H. It almost made this unwatchable. I doubt there is anything you can do about it or maybe you're getting paid for all these ad interruptions but it is bad. FYI.
