With literally thousands of Atari800 games in existence, Alley Cat sticks out for being unique (a cartoon game about a cat in an alley who enters a house and does cat tasks) and being of such high quality that it's fun to play even today. Plus, the game just had a ton of personality. It's a diamond in the rough, but among the hundreds of games on disks my parents had when I was a kid, this was one of the few I kept returning to.

Great game. Imaginative and fast-moving but not annoyingly difficult.

I LOVED this game as a kid! There was nothing else out there quite like it, and I like the cat theme a lot. I love how you do all sorts of "cat tasks" in the house. I always knew the Atari800 version, and when I encountered the PC version much later, I was annoyed at how totally inferior the PC version was!

This kind of reminds me of Frogger 2, with all the different levels. It's typical of 8-bit games also that there's no fixed sense of scale; Your cat becomes the size of a fish when you enter the fish tank, for example!

You know, you played two of the levels I'd REALLY avoid if I could. I think I was scared shitless of the spiders and the eels, that if I spotted those stages I'd immediately escape. Notably the spiders bit. We only get ONE spider in the PC version, but hearing it go "CHOMP" when you hit it is enough to give you trauma when you're 8. And don't get me started on getting zapped by the eels.
