Atarashii Gakko is currently my second favorite group from Japan, after Band-Maid. The have a wide range of song styles, generally in the pop genre, but with more Jazz influences in their earlier works. What is consistent throughout is their spectacular choreography and their amazing energy and attitude! And they often tackle serious subjects in a light hearted but thoughtful and impactful manner. The song Otona Blue is their recent breakout viral hit (even though it was released over 3 years ago) - I recommend watching it on the First Take channel, where you can see their playfulness. And they recently performed Tokyo Calling (along with about 7-8 other songs) at the recent Cochella festival, where the really impressed and fired up the crowd. They had members from the USC Trojan Marching Band and a Taiko drum group perform the horn and drum parts on stage with them. It was fantastic!

Sugoi! Saw Atarashii Gakko in November. It was one of the best and most energetic live performances I've seen in over a decade! Highly entertaining with great fan interaction and just plain FUN. All who attended left the show wearing ear-to-ear smiles. Suzuka, Rinne, Mizyu, and Kanon are all wonderful! Arigatou!

Hey thanks for the reaction! Probably not the best entry song. The best song based on what I can glean from your style of music would be "Otona Blue" from their "First Take" performance. Next I would try "Koi Geba", which is more of a jazz/rock song. They are very diverse in their catalogue.

I mean if you had started your Band-Maid journey with "Rinne", which is a hard thrash metal song, you probably might have a different idea of the Maids. Kuruppo! 😂@@FaroSofi

Atarashii Gakko No Leaders (New School Leaders) were formed in 2015 by Asobisytem. They now go by Atarashii Gakko outside Japan. Mizyu (the one with two ponytails) had already worked with Asobisystems as a back up dancer to Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and she was joined by Rin, Kanon and Suzuka. Suzuka's extrovert personality and strong voice make her the obvious front person on stage and she will often leap into the crowd, but Mizyu is the oldest and in early press was sometimes described as the leader, but there's no official leader. They do all their own choreography and collaborate with producers on the songs and write a lot of the lyrics. The dancing is a big element of their shows and so it's all highly choreographed, but AG! also perform with a freedom, fun and ease seldom seen in other idol type groups; it's a very different vibe from BM. Their music ranges from hip-hop, Showa era pop to jazz and rock. They are in big demand in Japan for adverts and develop dances to client requirements. Their motto is "with individuality and freedom I'm going to stick out" and they sing about some challenging themes and have appeared at Pride events. In 2020/21 they joined 88rising to break into the US market and have had success on social media and just completed a small N. American tour, were a big hit at Coachella 2024 and will do a World tour in 2024. in "Tokyo Calling" AG! are singing about the difficulties of living in modern Japan and how it can seem pointless and alienating. They use imagery from old Japanese superhero and monster movies and cast themselves as superheros to motivate people to break out of their rut and move forward. The song feels unfinished to me, but they have lots of better songs IMO and when you listen to them I think you'll really like them. If you'd like to react to more AG! just search on "ATARASHII GAKKO! - OTONABLUE / THE FIRST TAKE". For some live performances look at "Atarashii Gakko! Live @ Brooklyn, New York - OTONABLUE, Intergalactic, NAINAINAI" and for a very new song "AG FOREVER SISTERS Debut at Coachella 20240414" is pure disco.

The most shocking thing about this reaction is the fact that you have never seen Godzilla! 😳 I love AG! Tokyo Calling, though, was a song that had to grow on me. I wasn't sure about it at first but, I love it now. AG is not only great at singing and dancing. They are quite humorous as well. Especially in their early days when they were featured on Kannai Devil show. Between the interview section and other parts where he sent them on missions away from the studio cracked me up. Like others have said, they do all their choreography and it is usually intense. They also film dance practice videos which result in chaos sometimes because they try to make each other laugh. Why else would you practice with an oven mitt on your hand? 🤣🤣 Their older stuff is more rock/jazzy fusion while the newer stuff after signing with 88Rising is more hip hoppy. I hope to see you react to more!

Not really my thing either, but I've only listened to a couple of their songs. They have a very large following, so there's something there, just not for me.
