Mumbai needs 2-3 more bridges, coastal roads till mira byrander and a full fledged metro system connecting the main city and all its suburbs along with multiple new cities around Mumbai and other economic centres in Maharasthra to even come close to what it should have been in the first place. We are still 20 years behind! A lot of work to be done. :)

Indians have been living in that mindset for decades! The time is different. Mumbai has an economy for $ 300 billion, which is more than many countries in the world and definitely larger than our neighbours! so in no stretch of imagination the current infrastructure is enough for the 3 crore people in the city and area! Exactly what I wanted to say too. This comparison is misleading. As if millions of cars have been waiting at the Nhava Sheva exit for a faster route to SoBo. If you are near Bandra, this route will make even less sense as you could simply take the BKC connector.

Everyone needs to learn from Tanvir. He reached the destination, ordered coffee and finished both his work and coffee in a matter of 15 mins. That's efficiency 😁 Anyways on a more serious note, the MTHL is definitely a boon and the 250 rs spent would well be worth the time, fuel, effort and frustration. Stacy reaching in 1.50 hours is still not a bad time- it gets worse on occasions where you would be well over 2 hours late, wasting at least 2 litres of fuel and still paying toll to get into Mumbai.

Even the distance varies right, so it will beat in peak time plus at night time also. There is so much difference in route. In night I would use old one to avoid 250 toll, but in peak time we should use new bridge.

Once mumbai coastal road us done. Even south mumbai part of the stretch will become faster. Together using MTHL, from Navi Mumbai to the Asiatic society library, it should take about 30 min.

Old route is 57km, new is 22km.Maths for up down is :old route 57*2=114kms, new route=22*2=44, dofferece is 70 kms less from new route . My vehicle gives mileage of 10km per litre, so it basically saves 7litres of diesel for me, and saves 7*94=658+(140 old route. Toll for up down) =798.out of which now I give 375 as toll which gives net saving of Rs 423 per trip, it saves my time and avoid traffic 🚦frustration.

Chirle to Asiatic is around 30 Km, and Chirle to Asiatic via Vashi is about 45 Km. It would be a fair comparison if you started the journey from Belapur, where the distance via both routes is around 45 Km.

I will check Panvel to sewri its around 49 km via Atal setu and 51 km via Vashi bridge. So Atal setu is not so efficient in case of money.

Wait for 1 year and the Vashi bridge is extending on both the sides. In Mumbai it depends where you want to go, There will be more people traveling to Suburbs than SoBo so keep your final destination at Ghatkoper / Bandra / Chembur / Thane / Andheri and redo this test…

Chill bro...main purpose of this bridge is to make sobo residents easily accessible to navi Mumbai international airport...It is not recommended for suburbs until worli sewri connecter & coastal road comes in place.

I travelled from Vashi to Chembur for almost 1.5 years and many times the Vashi bridge crossing takes almost half hour in car or bus.. I'm sure the road was clear when she travelled, because a little bit problem on that road leads to crowding in few mins.

I agree with the other person who said, that this seems like a money making project for some politicians and others.

WRONG comparison. Two bridges are located at 2 ends of Navi Mumbai. Vashi and neighbouring nodes of Navi Mumbai will not use Atal setu for coming to Mumbai.

@karangupte5343 i agree that as you are North of Nerul, you will not see the benefit of the new bridge. But that people from the South, including Pune, dont have to take Vashi toll and BKC to go to South Mumbai. People now have choice, but ,relatively speaking, this tunnel will reduce the traffic going through Vashi toll.

They didn't challenge each other. Their cab drivers did.😂

It's an achievement. The route is enjoyable and the thought of reaching faster in Mumbai is incomparable. One should experience this route koi kaam nahi bhi ho toh either ends mei😊😊

If toll income is not sufficiently collected the old route will be stopped for repairs as toll for trans harbour link is very high

All people who were cribbing on 250 rs toll one way' .. the average mileage of the car in city is around 12kmpl.. so imagine you are saving 18.2 kms and with petrol around 102 rs. So you save 160 rs in fuel and with one hour of travel time. Nett amount spent is 90 only and not 250. Also imagine the gear changes and breaking every now and then adding to wear and tear in long run which equates to almost same amount of money.

So the value of 1hr+ comfort = 250/ (ofcourse oneway). For those who are complaining about toll its all about time and convenience.

actually it depends on which part of mumbai you want to go if its south/central mumbai then the new bridge is great but for upper parts of the city probably not.

Atal Setu is good for South Mumbai. For the suburbs Vashi bridge is better. You barely save 5-10 minutes and the toll is steep 250/- This is my experience

What rubbish. Atleast you could have started both the cabs from Navi Mumbai. You started both the cabs from Chirle which is ridiculous. Maximum Navi Mumbai residents stay on palm beach. You could have chosen any such place. Also that is not the Eastern Expressway but the Eastern Freeway. Horrible review.

To settle an arguement of price once and for all.. This Bridge is for people who value their time more than money.. or who loose more money waiting on traffic jams than the toll.. its Mumbai we are talking about where even professionals who earn hundred of bucks per minute.. forget about businessman. Any new technolically advance system is initially built costly and serves the rich for example.. Cars, Ships, Airplanes & Airtravel were all built initially keeping the rich in mind... but eventually with economies of scale and other innovative ways the costs came down to make it affordable for common folks..

So comparing a Road to a statue and a tower is a fair measurement? Nice.

It would have been a fair competition if the endpoint were Worli or Dadar. That way, we also would have found out which road to prefer when going to Dadar/Bandra side

It’s in shivdi for a reason. At the other end a bridge is in process (Prabhadevi) which will connect to Worli seaface and Bandra-Worli sealink.

It's a lop-sided race !! They should keep from Vashi (which is the main Navi Mumbai suburb) to CST - via the two routes. I am sure, the old route will win hands-down

While Mumbai gets its infrastructure upgraded, we are still grappling with traffic in Blore. Atleast expand the metro connectivity in Blore if not anything else.

Main Navi Mumbai at near by Vashi.. if she start from vashi then there is no use of atal setu. It is more useful when airport will complete.

Flawed comparison of starting from Chirle, which is start of Atal Setu. You should try more practical option of trying from old Mumbai Pune highway, Mumbai Pune expressway or Mumbai Alibaug or Goa highway junctions. That would be real check of the test

Panvel is the right for both route competition

You should also add the cost in this comparison - taxi rent on one side vs rent +toll on other side.

It'll almost add up to be the same. The biggest benefit is the time you save. Which is priceless

This race was actually not fair, if the finish line for the race would have been the international airport, the race would have been cut throat.

Its just saves 20-30 mins of your time if you are coming from Pune and going to Town with the expense of 250 rs. But considering 7-10 KM (10 Qvg) extra via old route and 45 toll of vashi bridge the cost of traveling comes to 125 Extra. Old Route Cost :- 125 Extra with 30 mins extra traveling New Route cost:- 250 Extra with 30 mins less extra traveling.

Why would a public transport go that way?? I mean, rethink about what you're trying to tell. The sole purpose of city public transport is to cater small distances with volume passengers but the bridge is a niche path.

@@siddharthnambiar4485 Anything that can reach up to 100 kmph speed is allowed for example mini-buses but not since city buses can't reach high speeds, they are not allowed. Could you take a look at the toll image?

That was good one to compare route time to know ppl that is it worth spending money if you have time . And if time is precious then Atal setu is best.

You should start from Mumbai Pune expressway end or some famous location rather from starting bridge... Not all are living beside the bridge...

Still atal setu will bear the old route.... On Mumbai Pune there is a exit for Uran near Palaspe phata from that you will reach to atal setu in 15 mins...😅

Taveer was 500rs down though (250 toll + 250 coffee and chana)

A bus service should start on the Atal Setu, this will be a boon for office goers

You should have checked the real navi mumbai where the crowd goes. From Vashi/Airoli/Rabale where the offices are to/from south mumbai. Also any part above bandra would still get the older route as faster to reach navi mumbai (Airoli/Rabale side). I think this is mainly beneficial when the airport comes up.

OK, what are the projects that will reduce travel time all over Mumbai??? Is the coastal road project going to reduce traffic inside Mumbai?? or is it only like traveling from Mumbai to other parts going to get easy. The important thing is to reduce traffic on inner roads, like in this video he entered Mumbai easily but within Mumbai took so much time

Its all metro city problem that inner road traffic. If you compare inner roads in metro cities with Atal setu or express way than it is difficult to say anything.

I stay in Andheri and frequently travel to pune the new atal setu bridge is of no use to me the old route is the shortest and convenient for me. It all depends where you stay in mumbai.

Chill bro...this bridge is not for suburbs...it is purely for sobo residents, once chirle -mumbai pume expressway connector gets completed , it will be hardly few min to connect expressway.

You should start from Panvel and then seperate the route

Single journey toll should be reduced to ₹200 for #cars, i am fine with toll of ₹375 for return journey

This is the reason why road infrastructure projects are done. Not to earn money from it directly via toll, but to increase economic activity and saving on fuel, time and climate expense.

So what was the time difference? Why not a running clock. Anyways good effort as this piece of infrastructure is about reducing travel time and perhaps the only parameter one should use for metrics.

This is such a dumb comparison. Who TF lives in chirle like you just started the journey on the mthl bridge. Truth is that the bridge is great and all but currently it is hardly useful. Only some people of Navi Mumbai will use it mainly the south region ones but more than half of the population still prefers the vashi bridge as it's also cheaper. The price of the mthl needs to be fixed. I hope this project of such magnitude doesn't fail.

What fraud is money control trying to perpetrate here? One of them has been given a distance of 47 kms and other a distance of 33 kms and made to race against each other? If you guys were at all genuine, you would have tried to do the same race from Nerul and then looked at the results. Didn’t expect this kind of low level thing from Moneycontrol

that was an absolutely uneven race. You should have started from Worli or Dadar or Santa Cruz and reached at Belapur CBD at Konkan Bhavan. That would have been a fair game.

I think, the start point for both the vehicles should have been Uran Phata Flyover, that's where the routes from Navi Mumbai get bifurcated for the old route and the Atal Setu route.
