My grandfather was a Korean war vet, a serious man, I had never heard him laugh like he did when he watched this movie, RIP Poppy.

One sad fact Gene Wilder friend, and wife died from ovarian cancer. Madeline Kahn and Gene's wife the great comedian Gilda Radner.

Mel Brooks movie "History of the World Part 1" was absolutely hysterical! Madelyn Khan was so beautiful but also so funny too!

In my memory Blazing Saddles came out before Young Frankenstein.

Your memory wins. _Blazing Saddles_ was Feb. 1974 and _Young Frankenstein_ was Dec. 1974.

You could have talked about John Hillerman who played Howard Johnson…. He also had a storied career. He played Higgins on Magnum PI, and many other tv shows and movies

I must say, his version of "To be, or not to be" , is a great masterpiece!

Mel Brooks is a legend, and Blazing Saddles is perhaps the greatest comedy ever made! But let's see. Burton Gilliam (Lyle) is still alive, age 85. Robyn Hilton (Miss Stein) is still alive, age 79. So those two have also outlived all the rest. In the video, the narrator said "primary cast," but the heading just said that Brooks was the last cast member alive. Yeah, I'm being picky, but facts is facts!

I have the uncut Blazing Saddles on a disk. I’ve seen it many times but still find something different and unique every time I watch it. One of the best movies ever made. Mel is the best!

Rodney Allen Rippy, who played young Bart in the flashback sequence, is still alive! He also occasionally shows up at the Hollywood Show events, and I have met him. Very nice young man. :-) Also… Burton, Gilliam, who I met about a year or so ago, at another, Hollywood Show event, is also still alive, and a really terrific experience! Had a really great time, talking and laughing with him! :-)

It’s hard to believe that Blazing Saddles is now 50 years old, and it’s also nice that Mel Brooks is still alive and active. I’ve always thought that an important characteristic of comedic genius is when something, despite being many years old, is still funny. And even after 50 years Blazing saddles is still hilarious. Fun fact: Mel Brooks initially had John Wayne in mind the play the Waco kid but he turned it down saying that the script was too dirty for him to appear in it. However he would be the first to see it.

Your wrong!! Burton Gilliam who played Lyle and Robyn Hilton and Mrs. Stein are both still alive. They both secondary main characters through out the movie! You included the great Dom Deluise, even though he has nothing to do with the main story and doesn’t show up till near the end of the movie, and only has a few minutes of screen time. Watch the movie, do your research!! 😎

No, made a comment about, there are 2 others from blazing saddles. As far as young Frankenstein Teri Garr a main character and gene Hackman a minor character are still alive. Mel brooks also a minor character is obviously still alive.

Slim Pickens was my favorite actor in this movie and any movie or TV show he appeared in. I can't say that he was versatile. Like John Wayne, he always played pretty much the same character, and never disappointed.😊❤❤

Fun fact about Blazing Saddles for the role of the Wakeo Kid Mel wasn’t to keen on casting his buddy Gene Wilder. He felt he was to young and so he set his sites on the Duke himself; that’s right he wanted to have none other than John Wayne play Jim. John once he read the script he couldn’t stop laughing and second he had to turn down the role because it was to dirty for John Wayne, but third he promised get everyone he to go see it once it was made. I can’t remember who they casted as Jim before Gene Wilder, only that the first day of filming the not Gene got on his horse and thew up green vomite all over the crew. With that enter Gene Wilder and the rest is history.

Mel Brooks is not the only cast member still alive, there are two others still alive, a third but he went uncredited

Mel brooks might be the last of the main characters from that film, but Burton gillium is 85 and still alive.

Burton Gilliam and Robyn Hilton are still alive, and I'm guessing several other cast members are, too.

Mel Brooks is a WWII veteran & fought in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944.

How could you ignore Burton Gilliam (who is still alive)? His character was much larger one than several of the actors that you did mention.

Blazing Saddles bar none it’s still as funny today as it was back in 1974

I saw the movie in theater in 1976 most likely March. I was a little shocked at issues of race and prejudice.

Gene Wilder wasn't in Young Frankenstein before Blazing Saddles. YF was made after Blazing Saddles.

Every time any one of these actors died, Mel got the Quickening. No other way to explain it.

I loved Silent Movie & Men in Tights

and according to Brooks, Pryor wrote the Mongo script. But I'm glad Brooks DIDN@T use \Pryor in the film. It would have been a "Richard Pryor" film and lose it's everyman appeal and focus.

This is a great movie and cast, especially Madeline Kahn with her two eye popping boobs. The whole cast was fantastic to the point of hysteria especially when they're all sitting around the campfire after eating beans and farting.
