Asvine P36 Titanium Piston Fill Fountain Pen Review - Bock vs Asvine EF nibs

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

A great pen. Beautiful combination of titanium & clear resin. See new version compared to original. I compare a Bock EF to an Asvine EF nib. See which one is better in my hand.

Yep, the Asvine EF is wetter and smoother making it not as fine, but i think i prefer it for faster stokes. Thanks for sharing.

I have the P36. I would strongly recommend not to pull the piston and take the shaft off the knob. You risk not being able to completely seal or sit the knob onto the barrel. It took me over an hour to put the blind cap in it's correct position. If you remove the piston, leave it together. Other than that, this is a very nice pen with a comfortable weight. Great review, Chris. ps. The Cypress pen looks phenomenal. I have to investigate it further and looking forward to your review.

Paul please share your piston cap reassembly tips!! I am at a loss getting the cap to thread all the way down to the body and not wiggle after reassembly.

@@cmoorhead1 the piston wiggles no matter is you adjust the piston or not. There is another problem. When you get the piston to fully retract, the knob, when attached to the barrel, has to extend the piston slightly to seal completely. If you have attempted to adjust the piston, it will wiggle outside of the barrel, but will not once it is inserted in the barrel. You just have to keep repositioning the piston screw into the key that is attached to the knob until you can get the piston to retract completely. It takes patience. I contacted Sally at Asvine and that was all the advice I got - patience and trial and error. Just remember that the piston will extend slightly when you attach the knob completely onto the barrel.

Had to check ... couldn't remember if I had the new or old version. It's the old with a (F) Bock nib. I currently have it in my rotation inked with Waterman "Tender Purple". I like everything about this pen. It never ceases to amaze me how several of my less to least expensive pens feel and perform better than my most expensive. This pen is no exception! Cheers!

Is it the Qin Dynasty one? I love that D5 but didn't want to spend that much until I saw a review. Then again, I do also love those obnoxious Jinhao dragon pens so....I ordered the Jinhao 9019. There is only 1 Chinese video on KZread so far. It has a HUGE converter and also a #8 nib. Add a lock, it becomes The Club.

Is it possible to replace the asvine nib with a Jowo one without further modifications? Is the bock nib unit the regular one? Thanks for the review!

  • @chrisrap52

You can replace Bock nib with a Jowo, nib assembly is different. Regular nib is an Asvine nib which I prefer, smoother & wetter.

Hi Chris! I found your review very interesting and cause for reflection. Remarkable! Considering that the Bock nib should be of German production, that EF stroke compared to the stroke of the squares on your paper, doesn't convince me at all. It is known that the Bock is a stiff nib but this should really make it closer to a western EF nib that doesn't exist. While in the Asvine nib the EF could pass, maybe...
