AstroPhoto Masterclass: DIY Nikon D5300 Mod! 🌌✨ Epic Night Sky Shots Unleashed! 🚀🔭

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

COMPLETE AT YOUR OWN RISK. This could very well brick your camera. I'm not an expert, just a guy who likes to tinker. I had to redo this several times to address various issues and clear various errors. I can't answer your questions because I don't know what I'm doing. It worked for me, but might not work for you. (But if you put it all together and you have errors, it's probably because one of the many cables isn't seated properly. Triple check them as you go).
Unabridged teardown, filter swap, and reassembly of my Nikon D5300 for an astrophotography modification.
For those who are interested, the size of the original filter is 34.5 x 21.5 x 0.7mm.

Excellent! Many Thanks. I thought about sending the camera away for conversion because I didn't want to risk destroying anything. After finding this video, I bought tools straight away and was done in an hour. What helped a lot was pausing the video at each step and checking if everything looks the same as mine and of course 3 beers but no more! What surprised me was that AF still worked on my Tamron 28-300mm, even without replacing the filter. (I have the filter on the actual telescope). For those who are interested, the size of the original filter is 34.5 x 21.5 x 0.7mm. Greetings from Stuttgart 🥨🍺👍

So what was causing the issue of not focusing to infinity? Taking the IR filter off does not change the optics:sensor focal distances. putting different IR cut filter should have done nothing to the focus.

Hello there! After reassembling nina says it cannot set shutter settings anymore. It did so flawless before the mod. Any ideas? I see the flex cable (with the wite isolation) running to the hdmi board is a bit damaged but i guess it doesn't matter because i am using usb anyway?

@@NothingOfficial668 Thank you, I did the same! I completes this mod yesterday and took it out for a test last night. It doesn't seem to quite reach infinity focus. Do I need to tighten the sensor block a few more turns?

most if not all All CMOS sensors are made by SONY. Even Canon's. It is the move to the Sony CMOS chip which saved Nikon, from their dreaded CCD chips of the early 2000s.

wondering if anyone has had this happen... I did exactly as you have, took out battery, sdcard etc. all nice and neat...took off the ir filter... then proceeded to put it together... white cable that screws on to the sensor back.. I moved it a little to line it up.... touched it and got a shock.... then as I screwed it down there was a small flash and bang...... no battery in..... it must be a charged capacitor.... anyway... after putting it back together.... it doesnt work now at all. UPDATE: there is a capacitor battery to save settings and medu options when the camera has no battery. So be warned peeps, you can short circuit even with no external battery.... so be careful and not do what I did

@@NothingOfficial668 yes, I feel a bit dumb too given I have certificates in electronic servicing) .... the cap is plugged directly into a board..its actually not for the menu memory retain, theres a button battery for that on the main pcb, its actually the charge cap for the flash... a large electrolytic cap (under the power pcb.. tthe cap can store power for quite some time, hence the shock and small bang when I must have shorted a wire onto a ribbon cable simply by touching them) . All thats needed is simply disconnect it when starting to mod. (its a reddish 2 wire connector, the wires are fairly thick, just unplug it) Add it to your guide with a line of text or in your comments, people will love you for it 😁😊. my d5300 wasnt in the greated condition and the shutter had over 200,000 images taken.... I ordered another with under 3000 shutter uses..so Im not massively upset really.. and hey I now have a spare sensor and lcd if ever needed :) its a very good guide you have done... You ought to post it on the cloudy nights forum :)
