One of the best surf-rock LPs of the '60s.

I was a teen high school surfer boy in the summer of 1963 at age 16, in southern California, and I bought this album when it was first released in June 1963. In Stereo, of course. I had a really cool Stereo sound system in my home bedroom. My Dad bought me some headphones so he didn't have to listen to it.

"Surfing as high as the Rockies! The Astronauts, from Denver, Colorado!" - RCA Victor tagline on back cover. Recorded at RCA Victor Studios in Hollywood, California. These guys were recording down the hall from Henry Mancini, who was working on his classic 1963 album "Uniquely Mancini", and they specifically asked him to do a real Surf Rock version of his tune "Banzai Pipeline", which he recorded as a Big Band Swing-Jazz tune. He loved it, and his son Chris also.

I guess the deal is simple. We surfed, we rocked and stomped, we bought the records we chose, and we formed our own bans and played the same. Yeah. 60 years later, still have three Mals and four short boards out back for out back. Surf today at Whale Back, crap, but with a SE wind, building up north side Palm Beach, Sydney

Cowabunga. One minor point. They tended to repeat the tunes of main line groups. OK, so did I and my group but we were in Australia

Bought this album in 1963 on the advice of a classmate from Colorado and had never heard of the Astronauts Band. Being a surfer, I avidly purchased every hot surf album to hit the charts. The Astronauts quickly became my favorite, however. These guys produced a sound with four driving guitars that, in my opinion, is unequaled in surf music. Unfortunately, they did not survive the Beatles and the U. S. Army draft. An outstanding album that remains one of my favorites even today!

Now that's what I call a "WET" sound!! Seawater sand and sweaty surfboards with an ominous Ocean!

Ominous? Only on the North Shore, Hawaii in December. We got told to leave the surf, but said the waves were those over the pool at Newport, Sydney.

Sounds like a mixture of the Ventures and Beach Boys-Good sound.

This is instrumental Surf Rock like the Ventures. The Beach Boys were pure vocal Surf Pop.
