Astrid Rousselin - "Forgotten World" | There's Something about You

Meet the finalists of the Blue Met’s program, There’s Something About You.
CONTEXT
10 English-language students have been nominated for outstanding essays about their sense of belonging in Quebec. They each have a dream project they’d like to carry out. Watch the videos, learn about their projects and vote for your favourite. The student who garners the most “Likes” will receive a $5,000 grant to turn their dream into reality, for the benefit the Anglophone community and Quebec as a whole.
THE PROJECT
Forgotten world focus' on what urban exploration is. Urban exploration, also known as Urbex, is the practice of exploring man-made structures, such as abandoned buildings and other areas not generally open to the public. The practices often tip-toe's around illegality as many urbex sites are located on private properties.
Urbexers recall adrenaline thrills whenever they "break into" one of those old abandoned buildings. They describe themselves as modern archeologists rediscovering forgotten man-made temples.
Rusty factories, outdated theatres, and decaying churches are common in Montreal, making the city a haven for the Urbex community.
We are trying to understand and depict their passion as well as providing a journalistic insight into the practice.
We also want to explore the more social and economic aspects next in our documentary.
For example, a question left un-answered right now is: why isn’t the city doing anything with these abandoned megastructures in our neighbourhoods while we have an accommodation crisis in Montréal.
