Astor Piazzolla - La Muerte del Angel | Josh Bynum & Kazuo Murakami

Josh Bynum (trombone) & Kazuo Murakami (piano)
This performance is from a live recital at the University of Central Arkansas while on a Spring 2024 tour.
I was first introduced to Piazzolla's music while studying with Nitzan Haroz of the Philadelphia Orchestra. He passed his love of this music down to most of his students, and I was no exception. In fact, this arrangement of the classic tango "Death of the Angel" was realized by another student of Nitzan's -- the amazing Achilles Liarmakopoulos of the Canadian Brass. I'm so grateful to him for sharing this setting with me!
Piazzolla's musical language revolutionized the traditional tango into a new style termed Nuevo Tango, which was distinct from the traditional tango through its incorporation of elements of jazz and its use of extended harmonies, dissonance, counterpoint, and forays into extended compositional forms.
