It usually is optional, it doesnt normally apply until you go to the in game mailbox and hit "apply to current saves"

I kind of dislike the game patch affecting the performance of cars mid season. Aston Martin was the best car in Aarav’s season and now they are mid field. I feel like it should only affect newly created careers or when you start a new season
