    I used to help out with pest control on the local syndicate, who rented 600 acres of forestry commission land. I reckon I shot on average 5 a week for 12 years. Add in what the game keeper and members shot, it was probably in the thousands over that period. As I remember we were only told to thin them out on two occasions by the forestry commission,(for ringing trees). God knows how many squirrels must live within a couple of miles of this site. To keep on top of these numbers they need culling 3 or 4 times a year otherwise all that will be left are Pigeons and Corvids. Good, sensible , humane shooting. Sometimes not nice , but needs doing. Well done.

Why do I feel so hungry and after just having my brunch too,..could it be the bacon and sausages fry up in the boys' blind there, or that great looking lunch? • @johngoose1497
    @johngoose14974 жыл бұрын

    More guns should take up shooting greys they are every where now, or the problem of greys will become so big .They know when song birds are on eggs & wait for them to hatch, so they can eat day old chicks. In urban areas where there is no shooting sparrows have decline by 80% & usually only live in urban areas. Council's should start hiring guns in parks, they could close them about 5.00am or so for a couple of hours for the guns to work.

    I've used a small forked stick to get a rabbit that managed to crawl into a hole in a tree. I just kept twisting the stick into the fur until I was able to pull the rabbit out. It might work on a squirrel's tail. Good luck.

    I recently read that they estimate the native red squirrel population to only be 150,000. The article placed the blame on loss of habitat, and the introduction of the grey squirrel. I watch a lot of pesting videos from the U.K. and often wonder, have you ever seen a red squirrel on any of your forays?

    A perspective from watching this video - the larger calibre, higher power rifles put the squirrels down a lot quicker than the sub 12fpe.

  • @VerminHuntersTV

    @VerminHuntersTV

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes agreed. Being hit with a .25 or .30 heavier projectile rather than a smaller lighter will have that effect. That's we the sub 12s shoot for the brain to ensure humane kills. The squirrel twitches but it's brain is destroyed and so clinically brain dead and won't suffer.

    Hi Si and Davy, I love your vids on you tube , and I have even been to Black Cat range near Swindon. But I do object to you shooting grey collar doves. In my opinion they are not a pest, like rats, grey squirrels and corvids, especially magpies. Even woodies are not really a pest , only to farmers trying to grow certain crops. As a fellow air gun enthuthiast I would welcome your reply on you tube

I have the chance to buy the short rifle version of the S510 Extra FAC, it is not cheap here (almost 1000 GBP) but all air rifles are on the high side compared to the UK.
