Assist Control Ventilation
ICU settings were something I used to struggle with. Even keeping the names straight were tough for me sometimes, but I think I finally straightened them out! In this video we take a quick look at assist control mode or AC mode (also known as continuous mandatory ventilation CMV), what we program in, what we get out, and what it actually does in delivering breathes to our patient.

How come when using AC mode on a passive circuit on the Trilogy 100, I can see varying tidal volumes on the screen even when a set Vt is programmed in?
what if the patient breathes 10bpm? will the ventilator add another 2 breaths?
How do you determine WHAT settings you use? Whether you are using Assist/ VC/ PS

Great question! So again, and I apologize, this is going to depend on a number of things! Aside from the practitioners' training preferences, it will depends on the pathology, why they are intubated to begin with, how sedated they are, their own innate physiology etc. None is "indicated" per say, but SIMV for example doesn't do much if the patient is paralyzed for example.
