The 86 cars were beasts, all of them. I saw them race. They were unbelievably loud, despite the turbos, and more a little scary. You were never too sure that one of them wouldn't just blow an engine and shoot bits of metal and hot lubricants all over the track.

I understand why they've built engines to last half a dozen races. But I do miss the unpredictability of having cars driven beyond the limits of the hardware and blowing up on track. Back then Lewis might have been a lap up on 3rd place but that didn't necessarily mean he was going to win every race.

crazy facts : Ayrton Senna qualified 1:23.175 with the same car Prost was in pole with 1:22.627 And this was in real life :D These times were crazy for F1 !!!

That's actually insane because if anything the track was slower than today. Was Jimmy on the right tyres?
@szalonysebcio5
6 жыл бұрын
Considering that Jimmy is not a professional racing driver and Senna was an absolute beast on Monaco, only 1.5 seconds off the Senna's pace (albeit on a modern, faster circuit) is still a damn achievement, considering that with few more laps of practice he could probably go around 0.5 faster!
@Obi-WanKannabis
6 жыл бұрын
it was more like 1.8 seconds slower. But still yea, Prost was 1.4 seconds slower in 1988 so it's not unreasonable.

These F1 drivers are INSANELY FAST for sure (the champions are god level). A curious fact: Prost and Senna dominated the Monaco Grand Prix for TEN YEARS, alternating the first place from 1984 to 1993. Also interesting the fact that Senna is considered the "Master of Monaco" with 5 poles, 6 wins (5 consecutive wins from 1989 to 1993) and 8 podiums (and he achieved these stats with only 10 races on the principality). About Jimmy, don't underestimate the 1.5 second difference, because this difference is more significant in a slow and short track like Monaco. But great drive by him anyway.

I watched your Matra V12 Monaco video yesterday. I preferred that but this is still excellent. I can't believe these videos are five years old, they're brilliant.
I was watching your vids for the first time and I clicked out before the outro song started playing. Now being the first time I heard it, I gotta say I love it.
Hello Jimmy! I feel honored to have the opportunity to see his incredible riding ability taming this F1 beast. Your videos are awesome! I've been an Ayrton Senna fan since I was a kid. In Brazil he is a living F1 legend, and watching this video with all this simulation technology and your skills is like living the past that still lives in our hearts around here. Thank you!
Just got a wheel and immediately loved this car. I absolutely cant drive street cars, but I actually feel halfway competent driving this lotus.
"Ayrton Senna do Brasil" Yeah! I got that! I remember to hear this expression on TV every sunday morning at beginning of the 90's here in Brazil. Well done Jimmy, very nice video and awesome driving!
It always amazes me that most people measure their boost in "PSI", these cars measured their boost in "BAR" because the amount of boost.

Currently trying to tame the 98T up Pike's Peak. I'm working at 80% max boost and its absolutely WILD but very satisfying!!! Hoping to cut a 9:XX in it within the next couple of days.
Sick video about a sick car! I happened to test this car in Project Cars 1, visiting my friend, and there you can set the turbo pressure as bar units (instead of %) - the default setting is 4.7 bar and the highest is 6.0!! On top of this, the pressure gauge inside the car actually has a digital display on top, reading up to 6570 mbar! Was a helluva time in Silverstone 1986 layout with VR, but I must say, the soundscape in Assetto Corsa is on a different level. Love the noises of fuel burning in the exhaust!
I love seeing you changing the gears, and then the character model repeating you
Another amazing video Jimmy and senna would be proud of your driving around Monaco. Great stuff mate keep it up :)

Wow!!🔥🔥 Amazing video!... seriously how did you manage to hang on!?... driving in monaco and speaking at the same time!!!
My favorite part of motorsports is watching the feet dance on those pedals. Nice heal-toe!
This car is the most challenging to drive from the whole grid. Another one is the Sauber Group C. Old time classics teaching the essence of driving. From the era when power was way ahead of control.A huge gokart on steroids. It's challenging to do a proper clean lap with it not mentioning racing. But when you learn it then it is an absolute pleasure to drive these cars on the edge. You can really feel the car and its limits more then any other. If you can control this car then you can drive any other.
Wasnt just T1, the swimming pool section was different in the 80's as well i believe

Hi Guys, I found this link a few years back. I never got to do it justice and point anyone to it but, today is good for it. :-) This site provides clear, simple track maps for many circuits AND, includes any changes made year by year. Find the circuit; click the 'Year'. Simple. In a panel to the right is a list of tabs that display alternative layouts including separate inner courses. There is a 'Pro' section right of the site menu bar. It seems similar but may include races of 'Pro' rating. So, to solve your Monaco track dispute... www.racingcircuits.info/

Your voice is amazing, sounds like your one of those commentators.
Thank you Jimmy.
There's a version of classic Pau hanging around somewhere. I know it's not period correct, but a combo like that is pretty incredible.
that last lap was sweet!
0:46 this is one best impressions of Galvão Bueno I've seen hahahahaha
Hella jealous of your footwork. Very impressive
Differences between modern day Circuit de Côte D'Azure and the 80's layout is that, back then their was less room. Much of the current runoff was non-existent back in the day. This resulted in a slower track time but I don't think it was any more dangerous then current day Monaco. Slower track time were because of tighter turns. The most notable parts of the track being Ste Devote, Piscine, and La Rascasse. Now a days, when you enter Piscine, there is a bit of run off and a rumble strip on the outside and run off to at the exit of the Piscine complex. This didn't exist back then as well as Rascasse being a bit wider. Everything from Beau Rivage to the Tunnel, and Antony Noghes hasn't really changed of the years.
Awesome channel keep it up
I can't believe that Jimmy quoted the famous phrase from our most famous F1 broadcaster Galvão Bueno "Ayrton Senna do Brasil!"! This is sooo amazing to hear from someone far from our reality!
Hey Jimmer! It would be really cool to watch a rally/racing school video of you talking about using different techniques for different situations!
Absolutely brutal, this thing would scare me shitless in VR let alone on a track
I think you would have still had a good time if you didn't give a slight lift at the swimming pool on that final flying lap. Senna had it judged so fine that he'd often kiss the barrier with the tyres and you don't have to worry about the consequences of a crash. I remember one of the things I realised about driving a forklift around awkward corners, with and without a load, in a previous job was that if you clear something by even 1mm you still don't hit it. Same applies to racing at well over 100mph at Monaco.
The last chicane is a lot more flowing in this version

Yeah, in the older version (80s) of Monaco, de swimming pool was much more scary (I believe its the last chicane, no?)
Awesome driving
Awesome video. Now just imagine, you'd need to be physically as sharp for the g forces.
I remember Murray Walker and James Hunt on commentary at a Monaco around this time. This particular year, James was late to the commentary and Murray was holding the shop. When James arrived, sometime around the 4th or so lap in, he was obviously pissed. His commentary was hilarious and Murray was still holding the fort over his quite drunken rambling and lack of tact. IIRC, I think it was the year it was rained out but I might be wrong about that. I do however remember from the rained out year James saying (wtte), "Oh Murray, it's absolutely pissing down now," which was jolly funny in a Derek and Clive (Cook & Moore) sorta way. It was very British.
Hey Jimmy nice driving and good commentary !! Why dont you try to spice up the videos by adding some external camera footage. That would be really awesome.
5 bar is approx 72 1/2 lbs of boost, a lot. Toss it after qualifying
What a great setup u have man. wish i can even dream to achieve that.
I noticed something! I watch your videos only when I am drunk or on something else, because I can't possibly drive like this. So mostly Saturday or Sunday.
Man, that sentence in portuguese, beautiful
I sat in that car at the NEC motor show in 86 and got a massive rollicking from security.
Absolute monster of a machine
The area around the swimming pool to the Rascasse is different to 1986 too.
Cool vid!!!
Jimmy check out AC-Track Reboot. There's some really awesome mods containing resurrected old track mods, they are taking them forward and making them PERFECT. All free, most of the tracks are period too - Monaco 1966, Spa 1966, Imola 1967, Oulton Park, Imola 1988 etc etc. It's well worth checking out for future "period" content. #thicc

Just a little fact check. Your time with full bar would have been good for 10th on the grid in 1986 Monaco GP, good work. Senna went 1.23.1!

Jimmy, can you try the SF70H here? Kimi's pole lap was amazing last year.
I was there when he died. Sent chills down my spine.
Ayrton Senna do Brasilllllllllllllllll! The Best Ever
When you drive this car you really feel that the back is trying to go faster than the front. This is definitely the best AC car to drive.
Now imagine doing it at this speed in real life. Any barrier hit could be fatal
Still crazy to me how they did this in real life, but that was their job and they had to do it, makes more sense when you think of it that way
Love your skill's by driving and commentating the Action , but THIS car only need … just watch +listen the engine to remember good old days !!! ;-)
Nice and calm nice and calm
Nice job going round Massenet twice in one lap. And Tosa in another.
awesome!
Artoyn Senna was racing for mclaren not for lotus but I'm glad you were racing with a lotus because back in 1971 it is the engine car in the f1 history
I don't think they modelled the bump down to mirabeau... Good of you to drive it like they did though.
