John those aren’t split rims, split rims have a locking ring that goes around the outside of the rim . The MBs rim is like a bead lock rim which is a lot more safe to change . Old semis use split ring rims

This was a very informative video. I looked at the sales site you linked to, do you sell beadlock rings for combat wheels?

What about applying anti-seize on both halves of rim where the tire bid sits on rim so it won’t stick with rust after years?

I usually really enjoy your videos but as a diesel mechanic who works with tractor trailers and as a tire specialist I would like to inject my opinion and knowledge. The 3 issues I have is the use of anti seize not torquing the nuts and not using a tire cage or clip-on tire inflator to inflate from a safe distance. The anti seize is good for the mating surfaces but the big issue on the lugs is the clamping force is drastically reduced with the use of anti seize even at the same torque spec. Also not torquing them. Torque is very important especially with a split rim such as this. Since jeep rims are seldom serviced I would suggest a extremely light coat on the studs/ lugs. (Only in the instance of long terms between service) Finally tire cages or restraint devises. Split rims are extremely dangerous. There are many different types and luckily these are one of the lesser dangerous but still. I understand tire cages may be hard to find but it is practice to run a chain or 2 through the center hole and around the tire so if the rim was to separate while airing up the chains would catch it. Or airing from a safe distance and being able to control the air from a distance. Airing a tire up and seating the bead is the most dangerous part also maybe suggest some lube on the bead so it slides when airing up. (Dish seat works fine) One of the dangers with split rims is When it's being aired up if the bead drags and then suddenly pops out that force can cause a failure of the rim. I hope this helps anyone. stay safe all and can't wait for the next video!

Thank you for telling us this before we start! I knew the rims were dangerous but chaining the rims and fill the air from a distance is great knowledge and I for one will use it.

And also remember that these rims are 75 years old and metal on the studs can crystalize and fail over time, be careful.

@@scoots8519 This isn't a high pressure tyre. Just do it like the lady did and all the rest of us do and you will be fine. Using lube on the studs makes it easier to over tighten by mistake, it wont prevent the correct torque being achieved so I really don't know what this guy is on about. If you are worried about the bead catching up just use a tyre lube from any motor factor and as you inflate it just keep an eye out to make sure it goes on evenly all the way around. This job is as simple as the lady makes it look.

@@thra5herxb12s Hey Dean, Not trying to be rude here but I changed a lot of tires in my youth working at a tire shop. We were told NOT to grease wheel lug studs. My comment was just to remind people installing these rims the lug studs are 75 years old in most cases and if the rims blow apart with you over the tire it can kill you.

Attention, never grease wheel bolts as it ruins your torque reading and it dangerous. I think this should be corrected in the video because this is very very dangerous practice if people see this video and start doing this in the garage.

Dry torque is a Torque specification given to a fastner that has no lubrication added--this is most bolts and most applications. Wet Torque is a Torque specification given to a fastner that lubrication is needed/added -- this is for spark plugs, fastners in very high temperatures, corrosive conditions and also heavy equipment "tracks"

@@TeamG503 exactly, spot on. Hence the anti seize paste will get you a false reading. Besides the fact that it is never wise to put ‘substance’ on a wheel stud. Luckily we do not do the km’s to get into a red zone but better safe than sorry, isn’t it?
