    Rhino Laws sloppy mechanics inspired me to do a cam swap on my first car! Granted i shouldve used a lil more torque wrenching instead of impact gunning becos i sheared my cam bolts off and cost myself a new rotating assembly, but i sure had fun doing it! Lessons learned right? 😂 Loctite on cam bolts rtv on oil pans and other than that have fun

    if you only knew what race teams do(really any power sport) if you need an engine QUICK...and only need it to last 5 laps.....or two 1/4 mile passes.......ya dont even need a tourque wrench. ive drilled holes in 350 heads to make them 400 heads....with a hand drill...... ive used a steering wheel puller to pull flywheels and split motorcycle cases open.... their are a few simple principals to follow.... the rest of the "rules" can be bent

    No reason it should not run fine. Loose chain just retards cam timing which moves peak toque to a higher rpm but not enough for most people to even notice the difference. Plenty tough for one to get loose enough to jump a tooth,i have taken motors apart that had oem plastic upper gears and most of the plastic was in the pan and the chain hadnt slipped.

What is deck height and what is its relevance to piston seating? And why does it matter to put rockers and pushrods back in the same order or exact place in the engine that they originally were? Are they not all the same sizes or lengths?

I hope that I'm wrong but I haven't seen anything that's going to cause your power issues, I have made a couple of comments along the way but it is my firm belief that the issue must be control related, the amounts of power missing is far too great for it to be bad rings, If the rings were at fault you would have blown every seal out of the motor. Happy to be wrong and at the pace you are moving it won't be long till we find out

    Should be careful spraying lube into the blind bolt holes. You can get a hydraulic effect between the bottom of the hole and the bolt and can get an inaccurate torque reading. Do you ever put sealant on the head gaskets when you re-use them? Great channel by the way.

    Lots of slop is on the original million mile cam and crank gears as well. In the non-sloppy world you shouldn't put a new chain on used gears. They are mated to each other. A totally new set won't have that much slop. Mine didn't anyway... And I used new OEM parts that were pretty cheap. Best of luck with it! Will be nice to see what the ring gap is on those pistons after they are broke in with that gnarly hone job. Bet they open up quite a bit more! Also when you go to tighten the oil pump you should align the rotors. Unapproved quick method is to snug the bolts by hand and turn the motor over a few times, then torque the pump. In a non-slop world you pull the pump cover and install spacers between the rotors to ensure it's centered properly.... then install.

  • @madmax2069

    @madmax2069

    Adam Opheim yeah I was going to say a little wear in the cam and crank timing gears will result in slop in the chain (even if the chain is new). if both the gears was a little worn and the chain stretched a little would result in a bunch of slop. but it didn't look like it was sloppy enough to skip a tooth with the old chain, or to cause problems. heck I've seen engines run smooth when the gears didn't have to be removed to remove the chain and still keep in time (that was a real head scratcher when I seen that, I was like how did the chain not pop off or skip a tooth).

    Quick question, you torque the rod caps to 50lbs from what I gathered. Why is that? I am in the process of doing mine and it says 15lbs and then another 75 degrees. Does it end up being around 50lbs with the torque wrench after the 75 degree turn? On one of my rod bolts it won't torque past 40lbs, the bolt ends up spinning

    not to be too picky but the timing sprockets actually get more wear than the chain because the c hain usually has rollers init and the sprockets dont so wear more just a thought

    Love your videos! Question: I'm installing new pistons and rings in my 5.3. If I decide to Turbo it at a later date, what should I gap my rings at? Stock specs or a bit bigger? I will be daily driving the car. Thanks in advance!

    Cam timing or spark timing

    Steve Tringale spark timing through tune, cam timing is not adjustable unless you have a adjustable timing gear, are off by an entire tooth, or for the poor people like me can drill and place an eccentric nut on the dowel pin. But you have to be careful with the eccentric nut because depending on how it's adjusted it may bind the bolt holes to the cam and makes the gear not perfectly concentric with the csm
