Assata Shakur Documentary
Assata: Exile since 1979
On May 2 1973, Black Panther activist Assata Olugbala Shakur (fsn) Joanne Deborah Chesimard, was pulled over by the New Jersey State Police, shot twice and then charged with murder of a police officer. Assata spent six and a half years in prison under brutal circumstances before escaping out of the maximum security wing of the Clinton Correctional Facility for Women in New Jersey in 1979 and moving to Cuba.
Assata: In her own words
My name is Assata ("she who struggles") Olugbala ( "for the people" ) Shakur ("the thankful one"), and I am a 20th century escaped slave. Because of government persecution, I was left with no other choice than to flee from the political repression, racism and violence that dominate the US government's policy towards people of color. I am an ex political prisoner, and I have been living in exile in Cuba since 1984. I have been a political activist most of my life, and although the U.S. government has done everything in its power to criminalize me, I am not a criminal, nor have I ever been one. In the 1960s, I participated in various struggles: the black liberation movement, the student rights movement, and the movement to end the war in Vietnam. I joined the Black Panther Party. By 1969 the Black Panther Party had become the number one organization targeted by the FBI's COINTELPRO program. because the Black Panther Party demanded the total liberation of black people, J. Edgar Hoover called it "greatest threat to the internal security of the country" and vowed to destroy it and its leaders and activists.

She was indeed in a vehicle with two other members of a black civil rights movement. One of them had a pistol, the police detained them, this individual shot and killed a policeman and they shot and killed him. Assata Shakur had no gun, one of her first bullets hit her collarbone and had she had a gun she would not have been able to shoot it. Once a prisoner of her, they analyzed her hands and she did not have gunpowder residue on them. She was convicted only for being black and a member of a black rights movement. Many years later and when she had already escaped from prison, she was accused of having gone and finished off the shot policeman on the ground, but that statement is not supported by any evidence or by any witnesses. The United States lacks any moral authority to speak of terrorism. Dozens of criminals who had committed dozens of murders in Cuba took refuge in the United States. In the 1960s, artillery boats left for Cuba from the coast of Miami and machine-gunned fishing villages. Cuba repeatedly asked the US for the extradition of Posada Carriles, a terrorist who participated in the 1973 bombing of an airplane in which 76 innocent civilians died, and the US always refused to hand him over. What in the HELL are you talking about? THREE blacks opened up on two cops who were not expecting to be attacked. One cop was taken by such surprise that he didn't even get out his gun. (until it was ripped out of the holster by Chesimard and he was shot in the head) Learn the facts before spouting off.

Very informative documentary. I vaguely recalled the shooting incident on the NJ turnpike. I had no recollection of Ms. Shakur. JB Faunteroy piqued my interest in her. JB is reading the book on either his YT channel or the Revolutionary Blackout Network channel.

History is repeating. 😢 Maybe we would be lucky enough to find out Tupac is still alive with his aunt. Even luckier if he came up for air and decided to give an interview. I still think that maybe he is alive there with her. I think he decided, nope, its not worth being called a rapist then possibly a murderer later if he would have kept going. It would make sense to not want to go through that for fame. Trying people in the media is wrong. There should be a different way, where things are reported in the paper but not actively trying to help get someone convicted before they even have a trial.
