Well done Acer on letting us open up and make upgrades on your devices! You deserve much more respect then Greedy Apple, where they restrict their costumers devices and not allow them to make changes or upgrades on their own.

so nice to have a tech video like this, i have a very very old aspire 5741 series with win7, this gives me much confidence to get another latest model from acer, since i am more used to DIY when it comes to upgrade.

Spot on, I've just replaced my 2006 Aspire 5920G with this model for exactly the same reasons

At about 3:18 when the installer is connecting the cable his hands cover up the process. The printing on the cable should be facing you, and you need to push the connector in straight, flat, and all the way in before closing the lock. I didn't get mine all the way in and had to redo the process to get the drive to work. A powerful magnifying glass helped.

Thank you - worked perfectly.

Be cautious with the black and white wires going to the WLAN card. The black wire closest to the screw holding it down was soldered poorly on mine and had to be re-soldered as it had a poor bond. You can get a slightly thicker drive to fit if you remove the foam padding on the bottom plastic panel but it is a very cozy arrangement so verify thickness before you order. Save for the loose wire, the install went well with just a plastic pry tool, screwdriver set, and the hard drive kit.

Instructions are the same for the Aspire A515-55. If needing the parts, the Bracket is Part # 33.HGLN7.001 and the Cable is Part # 50.HGLN7.003 . Purchased both on eBay.

Have you check the INTERNAL area of the laptop? In some models the bracket is just inside the laptop case.

On the website, Acer says if your laptop doesn't come with the bracket or connector, to contact support. They gave this link: www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/service-contact My laptop comes with the bracket in the box. I think my bracket is not already installed in the laptop.

Only one slot provided, no extra slot for upgradation. You need to remove the existing one to replace the new one for upgradation.

They are ± the same. The only difference is in connector's locations

you can check by opening task manager, going into performance, and looking at the RAM section, you'll probably be at 2400

It does not unless you damage it in any way while installing. There is no do note remove sticker like things with this PC. Good luck man!

2.5 inch SSD's come in a 7mm or a 9.5mm height=thickness To be on the safe side, always go for the 7mm version as that's what I did with my 3.84GB SSD early this yr for one of the 2 ACER laptops that I purchased for myself.

You can use M.2 NGFF SSD to 2.5" SATA III Enclosure of 7mm as in this ebay post for example tinyurl.com/yarr42qx

Late AF, but nothing serious happens, those are the WiFi antennae cables and yes, you can plug them in again. Those connectors are not designed to withstand many connections and disconnections like the USB ones for example, but you needn't worry.

4gb RAM is soldered onto motherboard and another 4gb RAM is given in the slot(for general configuration). To add additional RAM you need to remove this 4gb and replace it with another(Max upto 16gb)

@@cterry511 Maybe you have the model with the NVIDIA GPU which is a huge difference (You should see more parts and more cooling for the GPU)

Yes. I have done this on an A515-54-59X2 and an A515-55G-53QD. I used a Crucial 480GB SSD (good performance and price).
