Ouch, they used 32-bit OS on 64-bit chip, maybe to squeeze a little bit more free memory out of that 1GB of RAM.

A pretty familiar tactic for those who have used Amazon Fire tablets. As late as 2020 they were releasing devices with 64-bit SoCs but only running at 32-bit. The difference is that they sold them at 2/3 GB RAM configurations which would’ve run 64-bit just fine. That’s exactly what they did with the 2022 refresh. Kept the RAM the same, but used a newer revision of the SoC and let it run at 64-bits.

this is basically a phone from 2012/2013. Though most phones back then had at least decent screens and actual cameras that were actually usable (my experience back in that era were mostly Sony Ericsson/ Sony phones and the legendary Nexus 7 tablet).

As someone who uses a DSLR camera the sound it makes when you click record sounds like when it lifts the mirror so it can expose the sensor for it to record. When you press it again it closes the shutter and the mirror drops again, idk if it was intentional but it felt nice hearing that lol

@@NickEter there are good phones for cheap out there from legit brands but they are becoming more and more rare each year, especially on western markets. You can still be able to find golden nuggets in Asia, Africa and South America for sure. Here in EU the absolute cheapest it's like a 80 euros xiaomi and if you find then on sale it's like 60/70 euros and for what it does, it's good enough. Great for people who don't know better or literally don't care about anything besides it makes calls and sends messages.

I forgot to mention something. The saying "just works" has two meanings. One is a good thing like like" Got a new phone and it just works straight out of the box" implying that you don't have to faff around and it works perfectly as expected. Then there is the other "just works" as in it barely does the job it's supposed to do. Like a numpty I read it as the first version. Lol 😂

The only kinda timeless logo on there is the half life looking logo. There's something positive to say about the cheezyness of it though. Overly refined designs like you see a lot today are just bland.

they did it on purpose to call it a nitro so people can be fooled by the name! it should be called aspera snail for how "fast" it is, and i did a research on the cpu and according to a site it says that this cpu is for low budget phones (and it was made in 2017), it uses a 4g module and it has the same gpu as this (meanwhile the old generation used the mali one) so even tho is sus about the glue i think they are correct on the cpu name. as for the camera, it's worse than welcome, at least put it outside so you know it's a dummy one but no, pretending to be a real one and be a dummy is being a prick. i object to this!

Buying cheap phones and prepaid SIM cards in post offices is common in may countries. Reason: every village usually has a post office, while cellphone stores (especially those selling SIMs) could be miles away. Post office serves for communication, so buying communication equipment there has some sense. Also, they are usually government operated, so they do have some sort of legitimacy. This is important for elderly, or foreigners needing to buy cheap device quickly. Although, as we can see from this device, legitimacy and trust could be misplaced.

I do like the name, I remember it it from a job lot. Lol I just want to start with this. My Dad is 86 and he definitely wouldn't buy this phone. Like me he has Samsung A range. But I'm not sure which. I'm currently A54. I did have the A9 which was great with awesome camera. Sadly no longer updated. So had to update phone. So if I was going to Australia ( would love to visit but need so eoneto push my wheelchair lol) and I accidentally left my phone at home or had it stolen. I would look for a cheap replacement. Being honest I wouldn't buy this . Maybe if it had 3gb ram. I would consider it. The phone itself looks OK, as most do I suppose. Lol. I agree it is awfully slow. But with 1gb of ram that is to be expected. Lol Amdroid Go versions I believe are for phones with less than 2 gb of ram. I bought a cheap tablet that supposedly had 3gb of ram but was showing the Go version of certain apps. The real ram was 1.5 gb. It also made the most horrendous sounds that make me believe it is a welcome tablet with a cheap brand. This is why I think this is a Welcome phone with an Aspera branding on it? It was the sounds that gave it away. I do kind of like the Nitro name. It does sound cool. The torch 🔦 was OK. Enough to light your way in the dark. Microphone is something I've never really thought about but both sims sounded decent enough. The camera and video test were on the whole OK ish. You captured some really good stills. Although froggos looked better on video. Some of the flower shots came out really good too. Then objects in the distance left a lot to be desired. Xenny came out well in a few shots and video. The Devine Miss Ripley is gorgeous. That big white bully is just crying out for a belly rub. Lol The radio was surprisingly clear, especially compared to other Welcome devices. Although the sperker test with Doom stuff wasn't good. Loud but not great. I supposed earbuds or headphones would sound better. Possibly even more clear if using g the USB port for headphone out. That cheap tablet defo sounds awful but tolerable through USB. I tried it in the car driving round about and it was OK. I could get used to doing a spot of social media or Google stuff. As you say once a page has opened it is relatively quick to peruse the Web page. I do find having an easily replaced battery a big plus. The EU has ruled that all phones have an easily replaceable battery. But I don't know when it is supposed to come into force. I would get really frustrated if I were trying to play and games. It might end up being defenestrated rather quickly. The KZread test was OK. Yes the viewing angle wasn't a good selling point. So not gonna lie but I was really trying to like this phone for its specs and price range. And I did kind of like it. A cheap phone if I needed one in a hurry. However I really would go for more ram. On a side note. My guest had gone to bed and after feeding the cats I too headed to mine. I was going to rewatch this video on my TV and write this on my phone at the same time. However, I found you were still live streaming. Therefore writing this came second to the live stream. Which was really good and I throughly enjoyed reading all the comments and interacting with everyone. Although some terms I've not heard in different context but my excuse is I'm old. Lol possibly your oldest viewer. Lol Keep up the great work you do. Throughly enjoyable. 😊

"Australian Owned" is funny. They don't own anything related to the manufacturing, design and engineering of this. They just buy them wholesale from a welcome manufacturer and slap their logo on. At least that is what i assume, because the same thing happens here in Germany. Random Alibaba stuff labeled with a German brand to fool people. It's worse than dropshipping.

  • Ай бұрын

Reminded me of exactly that. Though at the very least, from what I know this doesn't apply to all manufacturers around here. Like Gigaset for example, from what I know they have at least put some engineering into their phones and assemble them here to some extend using robots.

I see it mostly with TV's and household appliances. A Telefunken TV is often just some rebadged OEM rubbish, especially the "smart" ones are terrible. A friend of mine had one from Grundig and it did not last longer than four years until it developed a black spot in the centre of the display panel. And the colours weren't calibrated at all. People looked like oranges. Never had a Gigaset mobile phone, but from what i heard they don't get updates nor do they have custom rom support, which is at least for me important for privacy and security reasons.

I wonder why Google never set much higher minimum system requirements for Android. If I were in charge, then even the S8 had 8 GB of RAM. RAM and storage is cheap today. Why build 64GB phones, when even cheap Samsungs have 128GB storage?
