wax waterproofs canvas very well but on such a light fabric like this does create discolouration. I don't like the look

-I think the waxing was a mistake. Doesn't look very nice :(- edit: yeah yeah, looks bad, blabla, now move on, it's just one mistake, but ya'll are acting like it's the end of the world and keep commenting it even more. Do you imagine how the maker of the video feels about that? Pretty fkin shitty probably. Besides, some people with waxing experience have said that it doesn't look that bad after some use. It's also waterproof now and that's an improvement. So please stop commenting about this. Thank you.

It looks and feels great in person though! Just waxed a canvas jacket for work using a similar technique. The camera doesn't do it justice.

@@enzobaldwin6121 sweet. I think it also depends on the type of fabric and how much wax you use. Maybe you just used a bit less, maybe your fabric was different. Or maybe the bag does look nicer in person. Thing is - we'll, sadly, never know for sure

A desaster

I love that people are getting their stuff fixed instead of getting rid of it and buying something new. These are designer pieces and it makes me really happy to see that these items get a second chance at live.

I don't think waxing it was a good idea, the color tone is off now. There's some light spots and then some dark spots. Also looks like the wax clumped together in some areas and with some of the wrinkling still there, it just looks cheap now.

To all y'all complaining about the wax the good news is that after it wears in a little more it will be beautiful

I like it, and fyi it takes time and use for the wax to wear a bit and it will look a little more “normal”

When you melting a wax my anxiety went📈

That perfect crinkled waxed canvas look, reminds me of foraging for mushrooms in the early, dewy mornings or even a trip to the weekend farmers market. A bit heavy on the wax but to each their own, new owner would happily sling this over his or her shoulder during a drizzle. Wished more local small leather businesses would bring back waxed canvas goods. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

For the people complaining about the wax: It’s called waxed canvas. It’s a type of fabric we use pretty often at my job. It starts of really stiff and dark like that but as you use it he softens and develops creases and weathers down very nicely. I don’t care for the wax in this particular color (we usually use darker colors so the distressing is more noticeable) but that’s what it’s suppose to look like to start. Stop bashing them for it.

Quinn Cassic, I think people are Intitled to their opinions. I believe that most were aware of the type of canvas that it is. In this case, it didn't do a darned thing for this bag. This is my opinion.If you don't like it, don't comment.

Guys stop talking about the wax so much please, I’m sure they get it by now :/ It probably doesn’t even look that bad in person and I’m sure it doesn’t feel super good to upload such an amazing and detailed restoration video for others to enjoy only to have everyone just pointing out the one thing they maybe didn’t do so great on. I know that would bum me out at least. So let’s just move past it and not overlook all of the cool things they did in this video, yeah? Like how nice the stitching and the leather dye turned out!! And the tiny little stain remover was so cute and handy!!!! 🤩🤩

I just know that if you're watching a sport and your team is doing great 90% of the time but they fumble the ball right at the end all you're gonna be talking about is the fumble

Remember you are also viewing this through a camera lens it probably looks great in person and the waxing will help avoid staining as canvas picks up everything so it would not look after a weeks worth of wear

I was thinking “Maybe I can restore an old bag” until I saw how much work goes into it and how many products and tools you need! I will leave the restoration to the professionals. 🥰 I like this bag. It was worth saving. Bet it’s a beauty in person.

I know your comment is older, but I wanted to say that it is very satisfying to restore a bag at home 😊 Once you have the proper cleaning and conditioning products, it’s honestly a great way to spend a rainy afternoon at home. Of course, the heavy duty machine for stitching repairs is another story… lol

I was not prepared for the hosing down of the bag after the soap, was not expecting that 😯. Great job though with clearly a lot of time and care put into it. There is also something about left-handers; just makes all movements look so delicate and graceful 💜

This was so satisfying to watch! Thank you so much for showing the waxing process as I’ve been wanting to create my own waxed fabric. Contrary to other commenters, I love that you waxed this as it makes the bag ever so much more useful and more elegant than a tacky plastic bag. I’m sure it will develop a very lovely patina with use! Oh, and I’m drooling over your Adler machine. I have a Consew but it’s a bit heavy for bags and such.

I know the wax is useful but...that finish though :/ Perhaps that’s what the customer expects but personally I’d be disappointed if I received that at the end. Really nice work otherwise though.

Waxed cotton and canvas tends to have that look pretty often. It's not for everyone. I think the logo probably just made it look more dramatic. I noticed he tried to avoid that area a bit initially.

Waxed canvas is a love/hate thing. Plenty of people wouldn't spend what Barbour asks for their jackets and others love them. It fades and wears over time so the initial waxing is pretty stark.

The bag will last longer with the wax protecting the canvas from stains/water marks, and it will look better and better as it ages and develops a patina. I compare it to people wearing sunblock- right after you put it on, it looks all streaky and shiny; but in the long term, your skin looks amazing because you protected it :)

I'm so glad you brought the airbrush part back! It's really satisfying!! Your work is amazing, as always, even though I don't really like how the wax coat looks. It's probably a customer's request and I trust you to do what's best. A lot of work, care and attention went in this restoration and this alone is worth watching!

BEAUTIFUL work! Watching the wax melt into the canvas was soooooo satisfying. I wish they had done the embroidery in a color to match the leather rather than the canvas, it doesn’t show much before or after the wax.

Ok this lives me so anxious I expected the bag to get restored not looking like it really is from 1856🥴

Nice job! I don’t see the issue with the wax. I have two Barbour jackets that are waxed and they look like this. AND the bag is protected. Relax people!!

What a complicated process but vintage Burberry is so worth it! Enjoyed watching it’s transformation.

I enjoy the final result, especially the worn out look. The wax give it an antique look. Bravo !

While I agree with the majority of comments stating that the wax coating doesn’t make this an especially attractive bag, I’d love to see how it looks as it ages.. something tells me that it will make for a gorgeous patina.

To all that disagreed with the wax....I think the fabric was uneven in color BEFORE the cleaning treatment. It might have been the only way to cover and make it waterproof to other stains.

I love wax cotton/cloth items the waterproofing capability is awesome. Your restoration was lovely, but your faith in that masking tape scared me lol. A well loved bag made beautiful again.

Было круто до обработки воском. Воск поменял цвет ткани и опять состарил сумку. Воск- такая штука, что и цвет кожи, особенно светлой, может сильно затемнить.

Incredible craftsmanship

I'm certainly no expert on this. But Saphir Javacuir (for the most worn parts of the leather) and Saphir Canadian cream, and clean the canvas and finish with some water repellent spray (for the canvas) feels like it would be a much better choice here.

Everyone is complaining about the wax but honestly it looks better than it did before. It’s also for water proofing. I don’t really see how it made it ugly, I personally don’t think it was a cute bag to begin with so when they added the wax it definitely helped it out

I think it looks nice with the re-wax it was made that way for a reason.
