ASMR Making A Quill Pen

Ойын-сауық

Relax as I fashion my very first quill pen from a large feather I found in the forest. Many have requested this video and I'm happy to finally make it, although it will become evident that my quill pen making skills leave much to be desired. This video is not a tutorial on making quill pens, but rather a relaxation/ASMR video so please don't expect a perfect pen on this, my first attempt. In my own defense, I learned quite a bit as I tried time and time again to improve the writing tip and hope to improve upon it even further in the future so that I can make a quill pen writing video.
Thank you to those that subscribe to my channel and if you are not subscribed, I invite you to do so. I also have a Facebook page for those interested.
You can follow me at:

My videos portray some of the typical day-to-day things that I do for relaxation. And so, this video was produced with relaxation in mind and hopefully has some ASMR qualities. Stress is harmful to your well-being and in today's fast-passed world, stress relief is more important than ever, and so I hope this video in some way acts as a stress-reliever for those watching, as well as a sleep-aid for anyone having a difficult time going to sleep.

Awesome video, all of yours are very relaxing. I am an avid birder for a little over 5 years now and I've seen over 230 species in North America so far. That feather is from a bird that I know all too well about being an avid fisherman as well. That is a primary (flight feather) from a Canada Goose. If you found it in the woods it may have lost the feather while flying over head. I find them all over the place when out birding and fishing.

I believe this is the first video of yours I watched. Not at all surprised that I still enjoy your videos to this day. I never struggle to sleep while watching your videos. Its a perfect mix of intentional and unintentional ASMR which I love. Hearing you talk about things and roll off facts and the history about said items and the process. Along with probably the most soothing voice I’ve ever heard. Best ASMRtist on KZread. I do hope you continue with this channel for as long as you can. The quality of the videos has never decreased. I also the element of mystery. I like that we don’t ever see your face, truth be told, I much prefer it this way. Focus less on the person looking at the camera and tapping away for an hour. Thank you R.ASMR

And my last suggestions: When writing, you'll notice, of course, that the harder you press the nib onto the paper (with ANY kind of pen, especially a fountain or quill variety), you'll make a thicker, messier line. Use only a very slight, practiced, pressure to get the line weight you want. The more viscous (thick) the ink you use, the less chance you'll have of making the big pools of unwanted ink at the ends of letters. FInally, and most important of these tips, remember that the angle of attack is VERY important when writing with any fountain pen or quill tip. The direction from which you start to make you letter (line or whatever), is all important, as the direction, in combination with pressure employed by your hand, determine the amount of friction realized on the paper surface. Try writing from right to left, instead of allowing the nib to be drawn in circular fashion. At professional calligrapher will often make three or four separate strokes (lifting the pen between each), to compose a single capital letter, and as many as two or three strokes to create a lower case letter. Hope this helps. Once you've got the hang of it, and practiced your letter stylings (fonts) to the degree that you can create them consistently, it's fun to fill out applications, write short notes, or insert written information of, say, documents that will be passed around the office, or placed on a community bulletin board (the real kind, not the electronic ones, obviously). Soon, realizing you have these skills, you'll be amazes how many times your asked to fill out certificates, address wedding invitations, make small, single-use greeting cards, and the like. I started doing this over a quarter of a century ago, and have been asked to fill out, for example, wedding invitations for up to 500 guests, at (way back then) $2.50 an envelope, and was even asked to fill out certificates to winners of a NASA astronaut campaign, all because someone saw the simple calligraphic examples I'd created in situations like those mentioned above. Good luck, and happy writing! PS ASMR, your penmanship is lovely.

  • @pigmental23

Dead right about pen pressure, less is more. Fonts are not scripts though, they are families of print letters used by printers and computers, yes there are fonts that look like scripts, but they are not scripts or hands. Personally, I find keeping the pen relatively upright gives a flexible format for writing, but that is horses for courses.

LOVEEEE the wooden table and the lighting was perfect, accentuating the feather to bring out even more detail, as if I was right there. Your handling of the feather was impecible, precise and gentle. I have no idea why this stimulated my head and relaxed me, but it did very well. By the end of the video i had apparently moved lower in my seat.

personally I really like the background "static". It sounds like the kind of white noise that I put on to sleep. Great video by the way! I really enjoyed the sound of pouring water

Really? And how many other subscribers feel the same? I've wonder before if I should make a video like that every now and then. Not really my style but would be happy to if enough people felt the same way.
