In the dingy dimness of the distant future there is only… happy Christmas?
So, I’ve been playing a lot of Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader recently and enjoying it a as much of a lot! I heartily recommend it; very nostalgic - all the way back to the 90s for me… but, anyway, for the purposes of IP relating to a company who may or may not be notoriously protective of it, here’s a completely unrelated video.
In this video, a generic future commissar is ordering troops to their end in the name of some sort of deity king, while keeping a careful eye on you and just chomping at the bit to blast you for desertion. But will you? Or won’t you? Or will you won’t? Either way, this isn’t exactly a relaxing atmosphere, with the doldrum of eternal war dirging in the background as nameless faces are callously sent to die beneath ordnance falling all around as plentifully as the bodies, but maybe there’s something in the old Victorian adage of war being mainly boredom with occasional flashes of panic that could inspire ASMR? Let’s find out. Or not. Entirely up to you.

🎙 What is ASMR? 🎧
ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) is synaesthesia of the soul. It’s a relaxing feeling, it’s a tingling down the spine, or it’s simply a sleep aid. Whether it’s being ‘held’ by someone you have confidence in, or ‘looked after’ by someone with authority, or just feeling ‘safe’ with someone you trust, it uses audio-visual triggers to enable you to let go of your worries and stresses - even just for a bit.
📽 What is FPC? 🎞
FPC (first person cinema) takes all the relaxing elements of ASMR but has much more of a focus on immersion and the suspension of disbelief. It’s kinda like being the main character in your own short movie, with popular figures you know and love, or entirely created worlds - just for you. There won’t be any visible mics or traditional triggers in these videos, and they will seem more unintentional than the usual ASMR videos - but they are unique and relaxing experiences designed to transport you to different places, worlds, and times.

I like to think the commissar has taken himself off the front line to deal with the deserter. But he's struggling to do it because this is the most peaceful moment he's had in years maybe decades and he knows once the execution is carried out he'll have to go straight back into combat. So instead he just continuously delays your demise just to scratch out a few more bits of relative peace and quiet.

Im now imagining the trenches in the grim dark future, a mix of how life goes on, at the edge of a hive city under siege. The thunder of distant gun's. the calming sounds of war .. If you could even call it that. Guards men huddling around the warmth of a Commissars command post. Deep within the trench, echo's of a radio chattering and wisper's of men and woman calming the nerves.. For the few hour's of respite, from the last enemy charge of horror and desperation. Can you imagine?

i feel like rogue trader- CRPGs always without fail launching with what in any other genre where 40,000 moving parts aren't as much of a thing would be called an unholy amount of bugs aside- is probably up there with jagged alliance 3, alan wake 2, and probably others i can't even name at 7 am on no sleep yet for my personal favorite games this year, yeah. it's glorious

Wow🥴! I'm certainly finding myself to be a sunshiney, naively dumb little optimist STILL, in these days. I thought the tsk tsk gun wagging was to keep me standing or sitting upright and was all in aid of keeping me, a young inexperienced, scared, soldier safe until the boss could have a wise father son talk with me about soldiery. At 16:16 he even waved me to step aside so I wouldn't get hurt while he shot two other escaping deserters. Then he soon shot some more. He also kept pointing the gun at me like he was going to shoot me then dropping it down. That half smiling, half serious look he keeps giving me. He is SO obviously teasing me. He's giving me a warm feeling like he likes me. I'm sure it's not just from the pile of our mens' corpses he set on fire to keep us warm. I am just SO relieved. What a man, what a nice fello💥💢! The way Jim gets into the minds of these twisted creep characters worries me sometimes. Though as Bette Davis once said...." It takes a good woman to know how to play a bitch." I think I might've said that before. The way Jim arranged that ongoing three ring circus of a war in the background was also mesmerising.
