“my year of rest and relaxation” is quite an odd, quite hilarious and VERY ‘real’ book, with an original plot, it’s not so much a ‘fun little read’, but definitely a really good one

totally agree, i did have to postpone finishing the book at one point cus i was NOT in the right mental state for its content😭 but i definitely love it now

@@ASMRfleur hmm i don’t want to say too much and potentially give you one too many expectations going in, but there’s some trigger warnings for the book (you could look up, or otherwise be aware that they’re there). though i personally don’t think it impacted me much in that regard, it probably wouldn’t benefit the ✨reading experience✨to go into reading it with an idea that it’s a chill, y2k, early 2000 nyc read. hence my comment:)) but definitely don’t let it discourage you from reading the book, it was probably one of the most intriguing books i read last year

@@ASMRfleur So far definitely the winner, Demon Copperhead. It’s a modern telling of David Copperfield so quite intense topics, modern day equivalent of a workhouse etc. But if you’re in the zone for it, I loved it. Just finished The Dog of the North and had v. similar thoughts to your GR review!

Another road trip book I recommend is Road Trip by Beth O’Leary! Loved it ❤
