The text means: "Scandia, or the three realms in the North: Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Dedicated to the most powerful and invincible Karl XII, king of Sweden, of the Goths and of the Vandals, Great-duke of Finland, etc. etc. etc. By his very humble and obedient servant, the Widow of Nicolas Visscher". (Visscher was a cartographer, probably the one who designed the map. He may have passed away before completing it, which could explain why it's the widow who wrote the dedication. He died in 1702). Your pronounciation is immaculate, bravo!

WELCOME BACK my friend. And so glad to see its a return to the classics...an old antique map? Delicate paper sounds and ASMRctica's soothing voice? It can't be beat. I've been away these days as well so coming back its like finding a goldmine of your recent videos. I will be asleep for days with all these incredible videos. I've yet to visit the Nordic countries but it looks so beautiful. I can only imagine what they looked like back in the 1700's. This video took me back to that time...fantastic work!

I think you really nailed the Finnish pronunciation. And yeah, you're right, there's a huge difference between the long and short vowels so it's important to really drag out those long vowels otherwise it sounds funny. In written language the long vowels (and consonants, by the way) are indeed marked up by a double letter.

Haha, love to hear that about the french things :) Yeah I agree, topics about space are so interesting! I have to do another video about those topics soon! Thanks for your supportive feedback. Your question made me start to think about how much time it actually takes me to complete a video. If I exclude the research phase (that can last for several weeks, because I can find it so interesting) it can take me 3 days to complete a 1-hour video (if I'm lucky and work hard haha), and thus 6 days to complete a 2-hour video. And then I'll need to add extra time for reading and replying to your fantastic comments, and prepare the audio for Audio Streaming Platforms, etc etc. :)

Yes Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania is there! :)
Interesting how Oulo has changed into Oulu... Very relaxing video. Also, the only Brahe I can think of is Per Brahe who served as governor-general of Finland in 1600s. And B is not originally in the Finnish alphabet, so that's probably also why it was dropped from Raahe.🤔
Relaxing👍

Hi, love the video (as always) :)! Also, I've got a question concerning your maps and atlantes (atlases?): Where do you look for them? Do you get most of them in antique stores? Or of the internet? I'd love to be on the lookout for some myself but don't know where to start :D
@ASMRctica
Жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for your comment and question! So glad to hear you like my content :D I have always kind of collected maps. Sometimes I find them in shops, this one for example is from a tourist shop. Atlases I usually buy online. Sometimes used, sometimes new. Sometimes I find a nice book at the library that I like so much, so I look for it online, and get my own copy of it. Physical Bookstores are also good inspiration for me.
