    What i really love about mobile gaming is what it did for the Console vs PC war. There is peace between the two sides because a new enemy has risen, and it's a far greater threat than anything gamers have faced before.

    Console vs PC was always a relatively even war. Mobile gaming came in and won the war, it was a slaughter, Mobile gaming is bigger than both PC and console combined, probably closer to double them combined now. We lost. Stew's demographic is too large. Microtransactions are just too profitable.

  • @theravenone3439

    @Lime That true statement doesn't really matter in the context of how badly we're losing the war. Yes console and PC games are currently way better than phone games, and yes, PC and console games will continue to push the line towards the microtransactions and psychological manipulation of mobile games because that is where the money is.

    When you get to the bottom of Stew argument and the non-said. You can understand that Stew actually cares not that people pay to get ahead because he knows that in the future however far he will eventually catch up to that point. In essence Stew is not concern by the mal-practice of Diablo Immortal because Stew is able (and has the time to spend, and doesn't mind being move past by other players who pays). It's essentially the argument Asmongold was talking in one earlier video. People who are not concerned by the problem chose to ignore the problem. It's not because it personally doesn't affect you that you should just ignore it. It's my assumption that Stew doesn't really care about how Diablo Immortal monetize shortcut to power and that if you choose to do it. Well it's your choice. Shame on you. Basically since the marketing scheme doesn't affect Stew personally, he judges that others shouldn't be affected either and they are either willing or stupid and basically the game and the developer shouldn't be at fault for them. Stew also mentioned how other game he played were worst. That old argument that if you've seen worst well it can't be that bad.

    IMO it's closer to "I don't want to ban/restrict guns because no one I personally know got killed in a shootout", while school shooting is 100% a problem and must not be ignored. If it's not a personal problem, they won't do anything about it, even though it is *objectively* a problem.

    That's all nice and stuff... but that's just simply not how things work in this space. Power creep keeps people chasing the new shiny thing, the amount of time you spend on equal footing with a whale is not long if at all, when eventually the game gets no new updates and dies is when you'll finally be able to relax. Because there's no new stuff to do and obtain. It's almost like it's by design or something, weird

  • @ZackofSpades

    @ZackofSpades

    The problem is that Stew seems to think that it'll take him a reasonable amount of time to reach the same level as whales when the math has been done and a f2p will be able to "catch up" to a whale in about 10 years. The game is designed to fish out all the whales then book it. I don't see the game lasting half that long.

    Idk if f2p can't be competitive, think it's still too early to judge either way. I've maintained rank 2 in my class and top 10 for all classes on my server since the game launched and all I've bought was the $5 battle pass. PvP is cross-server, so it isn't just that my server is lacking whales; it kind of is, there are only a handful of em, but again, pretty irrelevant to PvP when it's cross-server. Sitting at a healthy 68% win rate over 212 matches with more MVPs over whales than I've cared to count. If/when more whales join the fray over time, it may be difficult/impossible to maintain any spot on the leaderboard, but for now I'd say f2p are fine so long as they grind hard, play smart, build smart, stick to objectives over kills, and quit messin around trying to 1v1 enemies who are playing a class that hard counters theirs (especially when it's a whale)... You know, pretty much the things you'd be expected to do to maintain a top spot even in a non-mtx game. A lot of the skill builds and plays I see are beyond braindead. People think they're losing because they don't spend, but the hard truth is most of them actually just suck lmao.

    My only issue with this guy is that he talks about how PC and console gamers don't know what mobile gaming is like, we most certainly do. Everyone does. It was literally the first thing PC and Console gamers looked into when smart phones became a thing! And wouldn't you know it, all we found were scams and gacha garbage and we said "fuck that!" and now we're furious that one of PC gaming's greatest developers is now part of that blight on gaming culture. Sure, there are arguably a few gems that do exist and are well made, and have in-app purchases, but as games they don't hold a candle to what is available on console or PC and diablo immortal is no exception (being free to play does not mean a game is worth playing, by the way). Most people who play PC and Console games know what a good game is, and what scams disguised as "games" are, and have decided to heavily limit our involvement with that medium. The "You don't have to pay" argument doesn't change what the "game" is, clever wordplay doesn't make a lie not a lie. I don't know if he (who "only plays mobile games") has ever played a diablo game before, but some of us have been playing diablo games for over 20 years. We're not idiots, we don't need someone who's playing their first diablo game ever to explain how to gear up and get stronger, we know how Diablo works because it's the same as every other diablo game. None of what goes on in DI is new, fresh, nor innovating gameplay wise. I find his assumptions about PC and Console gamers pretty insulting.

    Spot on. Difficulty by damage spike is boring, they need to integrate mechanics with skills you can use to offset. The reason I believe lost ark has these gear spikes is to allow you to have some easy older content to progress, while progressing the current level(we all know starting out at 802 or 1302) the content is a bit harder without proper build. That means your T1 or T2 bridge(downgraded) gear is still fine for the previous tier.

    When it comes to being f2p in any gacha game, what it comes down to is your patience, and how well the gacha game rewards you for just playing the game. Not all gacha games are as heavily monetized as Diablo Immortal, some are even more monetized but what they offer you as f2p, are free rewards through events, different game modes etc. My point is there are gacha games that treat f2p players far better then they way Diablo Immortal treats their players. F2p means you are in it for the long haul and if it's a decently balanced game you will be able to catch up and fight against p2w players eventually. All p2w players would get is a head start.

I can only imagine how many tried to download this game and couldn't either phone was too full or they ran out of data for the month lol. What Stew fails to mention(probably deliberately) that while mobile games add ways to get lets say lv5 legendary gems for F2P players faster while adding legendary gem super fusion for whales to keep whaling. So while yes, he's technically right that the game will make you get your 5 star legendary gems down the line, however what he's ignoring that the game will add another P2W mechanic to keep whales ahead of F2P players. Not to mention we will probably get some "events" with perma codex increase and unless you pay during that event, you will be forever less powerful because you haven't spent money during that event.

    Exactly. By the time he has the 5 star legendary gems, they'll have been powercreeped into near uselessness. Then he celebrates by saying you'll eventually find a bracket of players who never paid and so you can have fun. That's great, I'm happy for him. But that just means the brackets aren't about skill, it's just about how much you pay. I've played shitty mobile games before and it's funny to me that Stew has an entire channel dedicated to mobile games and how to cope with the fact that they are just pay to win trash. Last time I played a mobile game, it had a general chat, I asked there why people played that abortion of a game and how they can find enjoyment in it when nothing they do relates to how smart or skilled they are, just how much money they put in. The reactions I got were predictably, quite toxic and vile. They were so angry with me pointing out the obvious truth when they were hundreds, if not thousands of dollars into that pile of garbage. They promised me that they'd raid me once I hit level 20 and didn't have any "PvP shield". The worst part for them was that I was only playing until level 20, then I was going to stop anyway. They were absolutely furious, and it's clear that there was an unhealthy connection to that game for them.

    I just love how it's "it's app gaming, so pay to win is fine! Those PC and Console plebs don't understand that this is how appgaming works!" What a terrible way to pave the road to hell. It's basically making excuses for extremely terrible anti-gamer developments in the industry. This is how app games are, they use p2w to finance more content. Well, that just means the content itself isn't worth paying for without the gambling, predatory tactics and huge time investment wall. If your game needs to be financed that way, I'm sorry but it sucks. As with Diablo Immortal, they're lazy. Almost all assets are reused from Diablo 3, hell, even the fucking story is recycled. This guy is talking about salty Diablo tears, he enjoys seeing others have their favorite franchises turned into the abomination that is the mobile market. All the while he's swimming in the salty sloppy seconds from Diablo 3 being rehashed into a shitty mobile game. He could've played Diablo 3 way before Immortal was released and he wouldn't even have to get wrecked by the whales. Exactly as Asmongold said. I wouldn't willingly play most mobile games myself, but what I am worried about is these practices becoming so widespread and commonplace that they'll leak into the PC (or Console, we need solidarity on this front) market. It has happened before Diablo Immortal. Diablo was a PC game for a long time, then a pay to win mobile version is made, could Diablo 4 take certain elements from Immortal based on how much money they generate? Absolutely, and it scares the hell out of me. It happened to one of my favorite old games. Dungeon Keeper. Dungeon Keeper an an IP was bought and then turned into the most cancerous moldy cum stain of a game it is now. And I just know that there will never be another Dungeon Keeper game that's worth playing now. Heroes of Might and Magic has arguably also had a mobile version made, but to be honest that series has been slaughtered a long time ago ever since HOMM 5.
