Asking Strangers if we can cook for them in THEIR House | Balabac Philippines |Sailing Ripple Effect
As we have explored the amazing islands throughout the Philippines, we have wanted to understand more and more what it truly means to be Filipino. As we thought about ways to try and experience Filipino culture in the most authentic fashion, we came up with a crazy idea. What if we approached strangers on the streets and asked them if we could cook them lunch. But here was the twist - we would ask them if we could cook for them in THEIR house. It's a question that you probably don't hear often, and for some a question you may never hear. We knew going into this social experiment that we may face rejection, and that our proposition was a lot to ask of a stranger. But we set out onto the streets with our heads high. Stick around as we roam the streets of Balabac, Philippines trying to find the perfect stranger to cook a meal for!

Nice video. Reminded me of the many community exposures I joined when I was young. When you are a guest in a Filipino home, you will not be allowed to help because "guests are king," not because you don't know where things are located. 4:46 Filipinos will bestow honorifics to persons they highly regard. Examples, calling our friend's parents as mama/papa or Rash and his wife are called "Daddy" and "Mommy" in their community.
