    Great Q & A with Pastor Patrick! I fortunately belong to a great inter-denominational church that includes many different people from different congregations. It's a small country church with a cowboy pastor, who I believe is a Baptist and he does seem to satisfy our differing beliefs by mentioning the differences in theology when it comes up. Best of all, we all love each other, celebrate each other, grieve together, when we are together. I, myself was raised by a Baptist father and Methodist mother and spent a great deal of time in both church's pews. Grandmother and great grandmother were Presbyterian and my great aunt and uncle were both pastors for a fundamentalist church, but can't remember which one. All that to say, I really enjoyed the questions and answers today! TFS, Faith! God bless you both!

    We have been at the same church for over 24yrs but it has changed so much 1st it used to have a cozy sanctuary, stain glass and pews, and 3 services due to lack of room, but you really felt God there, then they decided to build a new sanctuary , really big, looks like a auditorium ! Back to one service and seats instead of pews, had over 1000 members til covid hit, now its under 150 members mostly older members. The music is really hard to listen to , and the one good thing is the pastor ! He has helped build up two churches , now standing room only and both are paid for , our church still has a large mortgage and many of the big patrons have died or left for other churches , He came to us and worked for free for a long while, but now is full time , he pastors our church and the one in our sister town, he is really Good and funny and so full of spirit, calls himself a bapt a costal , I’m so worn out when he’s finished LOL ,he pastors his church at 10am and comes to our church at 11, we attended his church and I’m in love, its cozy and you feel God and see him in the people, mostly young members, and the music is oh so wonderful . Our church is large and cold, no stain glass, and I don’t feel God there? I tried to do what my Hunk says, be there for the message ? But when your uncomfortable you miss the message, our pastor repeats his message from his church to ours, almost word for word, we can also watch both services on line as well, but don’t want to get in that habit, any way my Hunk has gone to our church since he was 9 yrs , he’s now 63, the church in 163 yrs old and would hate for its doors to close , but its just so hard to go there now days, we are really thinking of joining our pastors 10 am church. Its really been hard on us. We keep praying about it , have been going to the other church on Wednesday nights and here lately on sunday . But feel a bit guilty ? Anyway just wanted to share this with you.

    Listening to the question on choosing a denomination--one additional differentiating factor is what the underlying presuppositions are of each denomination/stream. Don't forget about Lutheranism (neither Calvinist nor Arminian) and (conservative) Anglicanism 😊 and read what the church fathers wrote about baptism and other core elements of the faith!

    Question: Why do Christians 'celebrate/acknowledge' certain Jewish holidays but not ALL? For example, the Jewish new Year , Passover, Pentecost. If I'm not mistaken, these were ordinances that God gave the children of Israel and not the gentiles. Please clarify this for my understanding. Thank you.

    I don't know Christians that celebrate any of those? Do you mean a specific Denomination or non-Jewish religions? Curious which non-Jewish Denominations do celebrate it the same way

  • @doeroftheword262

    @doeroftheword262

    I used to attend a church (Pentecostal denomination) that back in the mid 2000 teens, adopted the First Fruits as part of the ministry. So when January came, we all had to give a specific amount of money. This was done because of a well known female pastor (seen on TV) was requesting it of her congregation, hence the 'jump on the bandwagon' with my former church for financials. Pentecost was a one day celebration remembering the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Rashashon was not celebrated in the context of the Gregorian new year, but a reminder of the Jewish new year and what it may represent concerning Christ's return. The picking and choosing the Jewish holidays (as I see it) seems like straddling the fence. Yes, the gentiles were adopted after the Jews rejected Christ as the Messiah, but it seems muddy to want to play both sides of the fence by being Gentile celebrating gentile holidays peppered with Jewish traditions. Also, the prayer shawl , talith, is also an adaptation many Christian churches subscribe to today. I hope this brings clarity to my original question.
