Asking A Mafia Boss Questions You're Too Scared To Ask...

Комедия

We asked Michael Franzese - Former mafia boss of the Colombo Crime family, some pressing questions about what mob life is really like. We discuss what his role entailed as a Caporegime, how the recruitment process works, the mafia's influence on politics all the way into the White House and the blood oath he had to take to be 'sworn in'!

It’s easy to assume that but it’s because he’s not totally exempt from the law like others. He’s stated before that he can’t incriminate himself by giving away information and it’s how he avoided being incarcerated or dead. He walked a very thin line and his ability to talk was what kept him alive and prospering. Other ‘mob’ guys simply didn’t live the life or they already made a deal with the feds which is why they can give such heavy details.

Historically the Genovese are probably the largest and most powerful family, and probably the most feared by other families, especially under Vincent Gigante when they controlled the commission. The Colombos and Philadelphia families have extremely violent histories though which has seen a number of bloody wars. You could make a solid case for any of the 5 families, Chicago, Detroit or Philadelphia at different times though

One friendly tip, for your videos and hmm I guess applies to other aspects of life as well. Do a bit of research into your interview subjects - basic research. It'll lead to better lines of questioning. This was a decent video but the bit about "I thought the mafia was about just walking around and offing people" (paraphrasing here) could have been avoided by even a simple google search on the american italian american mafia.

  • @HappyHourPodcast

Thanks for the friendly tip. I think you’ve misunderstood the concept of the podcast. As we interview hundreds of people from all walks of life, our audience are constantly being shown different people, from different careers, with different stories. We of course research every guest thoroughly, and 99% of the time we already know the answer to the question we are asking. We are asking for the audience. Also, our show is predominantly a comedy podcast, so the questions are phrased in a more comedic manner. Thanks.

Good to hear you guys did the research. I've watched a few videos before stumbling across this one, and this channel doesn't really strike as being purposefully comedic. It comes off more like series of slightly underprepared interviews. If that is your comedic bit, then I suppose it's not one that I am naturally receptive towards. Keep up the work. @@HappyHourPodcast
