    I like how colleen reacts to molly's story using words like "right", "ahum", "wow", "yeah" and many more instead of just nodding since molly wont be able to notice her nodding adding to this ; I know she probably does this to other people too but I still find it so respectful and considerate of her

    When molly said "when life gives you a situation, you just handle it because its your only option" I smiled. This has nothing to do with being disabled but when I was a sophomore in highschool, my brother passed away and people would always tell me that they dont know how I'm dealing with this because they would have died. But molly is exactly right. When something bad happens, you handle it because theres really nothing else you can do except handle it.

    My brother died when I was a freshman in high school and people have always said the same thing. Sometimes it feels like an insult because there have been/will be days when I dont feel like I can and it seems like I'm held to higher standard now and I'm expected to be okay. Ya know?

    My cousin was born blind (completely blind, both eyes are glass) and it’s so weird to me because you become so natural to it that you don’t even think about the fact they are blind. I always put my elbow out to my cousin without even realizing that I do, I always start all conversations with “its Remi” and carry on like normal. It becomes so normal.

    I like how Colleen added ‘When I’m around you I don’t just wanna talk to you about you being blind’ and it kind of shows that she KNOWS that just because she IS blind doesn’t mean that makes that the most interesting thing about her. You’re probably wondering why I’m commenting this but it’s because ppl who have collabed with Molly the only thing that they were mainly interested in is her blindness and... yeah, I don’t quite know what I’m saying anymore but if you understand... cool.

  • @dandyme123

    @dandyme123

    Joya Trif Colleen sees Molly as a person and not just a disability. Her blindness doesn’t make her who she is. It’s a part of her yes but she is still a person with interests and a personality. And Colleen shows interest in Molly as a person not her blindness. (I think that’s what you were saying? At least that’s what I got from it 😂)

    It also helps that Colleen grew up with a deaf brother so she understands a little better then most that people are not defined by their disability. I don’t want to say that’s the only reason because she has always been a very humble person but that just my input. ☺️

    She has RP, she still has some vision left. It will completely go away, but she can see silhouettes. I work in Ophthalmology and see this disease daily. It's really sad to watch my patients slowly lose vision. We have people undergoing clinical trials using stem cell transplants to possibly cure this terrible disease, but only one blood type qualifies at this time.

    Anytime someone goes through a life altering event or is diagnosed with an illness that others don’t understand or have misinformation about they will have friends and family who disappear completely and others who distance themselves until they figure out how they feel about the situation. It is only your real friends and family that sticks around and becomes part of your support team. It is one of the worst things to have to deal with especially when you’re facing a life threatening or altering illness . As soon as the word CANCER is uttered people who you considered close personal friends can’t get away fast enough and never look back. I have had this happen repeatedly over the last 8 years as I was going through multiple life threatening health issues and the fact that I nearly died 5 different times during the first 3 years. I didn’t share everything I had and was dealing with or going through because I saw how they had reacted when I went through my first spinal surgery which happened rather quickly and unexpectedly following an MRI scan 2 weeks prior. It was discovered that I had been living with and walking around with multiple spinal cord injuries caused by a car accident 20 years ago. Even though I had been experiencing visible symptoms of a spinal cord injury I had gone undiagnosed and misdiagnosed and had surgeries that I didn’t need. Getting pregnant with my daughter ,who was the only baby I carried to term and got to bring home after losing 6 pregnancies , I started experiencing difficulties in walking and numbness in my hands and feet and extreme pain. It didn’t go away after giving birth like the doctors said. It progressively got worse. My doctor said it was all in my head and never did anything to try to figure out what I was going through. I demanded that the MRI be done and thank God I did because it saved my life. My Neurosurgeon couldn’t believe that I was able to function at the level I was with the amount of damage shown in the MRI. I shouldn’t have been able to stand, walk, or anything I was doing. After the surgery he told us that I had literally been one wrong move away from death or becoming a quadriplegic on a respirator paralyzed from the neck down. A year later a few months before my next spinal/brain surgery I discovered a lump that was in fact breast cancer. As soon as that word was uttered I was shocked at those that disappeared from my life. Not what you need when you’re going through such scary events.

    I love how conversational it is between Molly and Colleen. I’m also totally blind and think it’s important to educate and be an open book to answer questions. People are only curious and want to know. Everyone who is blind or visually impaired do things differently, so that’s why I think it’s so important to just ask questions if and when you come across a person who can’t see. Okay there may be a few people who might not be confident or comfortable talking about their specific vision loss because it might still be quite hard for them to talk about but I honestly feel simply just asking they can either say I don’t feel comfortable or they can tell you, I would rather somebody just ask me. Can I understand everyone is different and I can only speak for myself of course. :-). I’m not easily offended in any way, so love these types of videos. Just so so awesome. :-). Hope everyone is managing to keep safe and well during these very uncertain and crazy times. Stay safe all. X
