Ask Steve: They're Lying, Drunk or Married!

Ойын-сауық

Connie's mom and dad doesn't like the guys she dates at all. There’s always something wrong with them. They say, "this guy lives too far away or that guy isn’t the right age." Connie appreciate her parents being protective but at this rate, she feels that she will never meet anyone because they keep throwing all these guys back!
Do you think Connie's parents are wrong for stepping in?

After the previous relationships, I’ve learned a HUGE lesson. If a man don’t ask questions about you to try to get to know you, walk away. If you have to do all the asking, talking, you’re chasing him. He’s not investing. He doesn’t want to know you. He doesn’t want you. Very nice Steve!

  • @NinjaSkittlez

As a guy, I actually struggle with asking questions. It isn't because I don' t care or want to know but because I don't want to make someone uncomfortable. I usually found it better to try and bait a conversation first and then talk about something mutual before trying to ask any questions. I'm not saying you're wrong I am just curious as to your opinion. Edit: some of this may be influenced by me having a JD (law degree) and not wanting someone to feel like I am subjecting them to cross-examination and being lawyered.

Hope I can add this without prejudice: men and women cannot be explained 100%. This venture turns into a statistical perseverance from a media critic/guru. The point I am making is that Steve is talking about women who want to get dressed up and wear makeup which I believe is most women in the beginning of courtship. Yes of course most men look for an attractive woman first and personality second. I say this because if men did not care about a woman's level of attractiveness then they wouldn't do it. Imagine a world where most men found women sexy without the makeup, hair, and nails stylized. In that world most women would not try to look 'sexy' they would try to look like the way they were naturally without all the 'bells and whistles'

trfrierson I agree with you. In the sense I agree with Steve here. The reason though as to why he says it, is where we differ. I agree because the point that's coming across is, don't let out all of your eggs in the basket. Also, don't make it a one sided conversation. Dates continue because both partners feel happy with the experience. It has nothing at all with them needing you or not. Heck I love an accomplished woman, its has to do with lots of factors. But you go on talk about yourself a bit too much of it, in experiences I have had that has what happened through most of the women that start to talk about themselves. So I guess its find a balance. And use it as a guideline not an actual rule to follow on point.

trfrierson oh and asking the man about himself definitely makes him feel good though. I agree on that part. For me though, if its just about me I would continue about it for sure. Because it was just about me. If you see the point I am making. In the end, if its just about me and I don't know anything about the woman I am with. Its waste of time and no long term planning will ensue. For me personally.

trfrierson Yup completely agree to not tell all about yourself on the first date. Yeah, the judgement of making to not to move forward comes with a number of dates, I agree as well. There are of chances as to why the first date might be the end. In that case I just respectfully decline, privately and honestly. But I see, in the end it comes to the different type of man and stages of his life I suppose. I see your point. Totally agree with you in everything you said there.

Yes, I believe this (and all the clips) have been edited. Mom is definitely right on all the points in the "Ask Nora" segment! She basically is saying things that Steve published in his book and that she says on his shows. Then there was a part that was edited out. Then Steve says she has got to move out. The part that been edited out probably has to do with the daughter saying she just wants a chance to meet a guy and see where it goes, she wants to make her own mistakes. Because as Nora says, nobody taught her, she had to learn the hard way, and finally she ended up with her husband here and hopefully they've had a good, pretty decent life, a daughter and are still married! But Mom Nora, just wants her daughter to skip the "learning the hard way" part and avoid some of the heartache that she (and other women) had to go through before they got to there "Mr. Right for Her." It seems the daughter still wants to (or wants a chance to) "sew her oats" or "have fun" before she thinks about settling down. Mom is saying, Connie you're 26, it's time to think about meeting someone and settling down with one nice guy!

I don't think the info is conflicting. Mama is right about where to find a quality man and all that, but the issue Steve is speaking to (re: moving out) is she needs her privacy so mediate her relationship with her man. What if she wants to cook him dinner and watch a movie at home? Have his family over? At her parents place, it can't be done. There is a necessity to have your personal and private time.
