Ask Me Anything! | Cancer Recovery Ep. 4

This "Ask Me Anything" is exactly what it sounds like -- bring your questions, and lay 'em on me! I'll do the best to answer every question you can throw at me.
- My GoFundMe: gofund.me/e077052a (Huge thanks to my wonderful friend for setting this up!!)
*NOTE: Today I'm a little weak, haven't eaten in 4 days, missed work most of this week because of belly pain & bloating. BUT...feeling much better today! Still pretty wobbly, but improving :)
Whether it's about the cancer experience and recovery, or recovery from an injury you may have -- it's all fair game! I love talking about rehab for back, neck, knee & shoulder, because I'm a huge nerd and I love what I do.

- Delta 8 gummies for sleep! I use the brand Hometown Hero (made right here in Austin!), and take the Peak Delta-8 Gummies: hometownhero.sjv.io/y25vBy NOTE: These are 100 mg per gummy - I split each gummy into 4 pieces (25 mg each), and only take 25 mg about an hour before bed. For me, they make me extremely relaxed, and feel like I’ve had about 3 glasses of wine. I wouldn’t take more than 25 mg at first, for sure. But they help me fall asleep faster, and stay asleep better than anything I’ve used so far!

I’m dealing with stage 4 ovarian cancer. Tumors throughout my abdomen. I have the same abdominal issues. I’ve been hospitalized with it about 10 times, the last was a doozie. My digestive track has not been the same since. I’ve had to change treatment plans a few time. This last combo of immuno and chemo was bringing down my numbers but has damaged my heart, so we had to discontinue that treatment. I now make sure I unlock my front door before I take a shower for the very reason of me possibly needing the paramedics. I also have to spend days in bed more frequently. Diagnosed December, 2022. I was like you, very physically active (hiker, biker, swimmer) with an emphasis on a healthy lifestyle. According to my oncologist, I wasn’t supposed to be here as long as I have been, but sometimes my body feels like death is around the corner. I wake up every day thinking it will be a good day, but I also have learned to accept whatever life hands me that day; there’s always tomorrow. I wish you the very best, your attitude is inspiring to me. Thanks for sharing your story. You’re brave to have had 6 surgeries, one major abdominal surgery was enough for me. 😮

Am now getting treatment known as the "red devil" which is scary as am told it can damage the heart so have to have heart echo tests while on it. It's also caused me to have painful mouth sores. Have you had this treatment and how was it for you? Prayers to you and Dr. Dan!!

I’m not sure if you will see this Dan, but my dad had pancreatic cancer. He had one primary lesion on his pancreas, went to Mayo in Rochester, and they did proton beam (also called “pencil beam”) radiation on the lesion. It completely resolved the cancer on his pancreas, but at his 3-month follow-up he had a new lesion appear on his liver. He could not do proton beam again, so they decided to do cyber-knife treatment on his liver, and this is what is relevant to you. The radiation oncologist told us that if the beam even KNICKED his stomach or small intestine then he may not want to eat again. And that is exactly what happened. You may need to speak to your doctor. Not eating for four days in your current situation is extremely concerning. Good luck my friend.

Hi Dan, it's good. to see you. I. can tell. you had a rough week.I had a hard. time seeing you cramping .I think you should focus on your health ,taking care of you. You deserve to pamper yourself and connect with the Spirit of God and listen to His voice .. Do what he say. With God nothing. is impossible.Have you tried baby food ? It. is gentle to the stomach, snack it , plenty of sleep, refreshes you.Remember. you are the Temple of the Holy Spirit ,God loves you. with an everlasting love It will be hard to treat people if you are sick.Focus on yourself getting better.I'll continue. to intercede for you.Take care ! God is near..

I NEVER MAKE IT TO YOUR LIVE STREAM, USUALLY WORKING WITH MY CANCER PATIENTS BUT........I TALKED TODAY ON MY CHANNEL ABOUT where we spend our attention. I love that you love your kitty. Keep her safe and please, please, be well, in your body and your mind. You are working it well. I love that you're sharing your experience. By the way, I call cancer not a "journey" which sounds rather exotic to me, but a "trek". Get out your boots and hiking stick and keep your eye in the horizon! Love ya!!!

Dr Dan. Thank you for your courage and positive Attitude. You are so wonderful to still have the compassion to help others with back pain while you yourself are dealing with cancer.. the Bible tells us that soon God will bring an end to all pain and suffering including cancer,, but it also tells us God's promise of a resurrection for all who have died.. i hope this brings you comfort today and hope for the future.

An earlier comment of mine suggested that you reconnect with the church of your chilhood. I believe in healing. Some people think that physical healing is the end all. I however believe that spiritual healing is even greater. Just try to reassess how you view your early christian experience. Reach out to and connect with spiritual individuals in your earlier experience and add them to your support group. Blessings!

Praying for you, Dan. Hoping you can maybe eat a few egg white and avocado omelets and get some liquids into you. Good idea on the Liquid IV if you can't tolerate Pedialyte. Hugs from Alabama.
