Asian slipknot? What an incredible amount of praise for slipknot yet the same amount of disrespect for Dir En Grey as a whole but especially for Kyo. Slipknot did not, has not and never will reach anywhere close to the musical and lyrical prowess that Dir En Grey has.

They do have a 16+ minute song :D [macabre live from Tabula Rasa] Vinushka would make for a great next reaction though [about 10 minutes] but make certain to go for the Androgynous live version [Kaya, who did the translation in the video you watched has two translation videos for this song. You can find (almost) all Dir en grey and sukekiyo songs on her channel with good quality videos. I've tried sending links but my comment kept vanishing so I deleted them now and we'll see if that works...]. This was great to watch! And if you want to go to church with Dir en grey there is always that unplugged turned original live version of Inconvenient Ideal 🤔 Kyo [vocals and lyrics] is a chameleon. He sings in three bands now [Dir en grey started in 1997, sukekiyo in 2013 and Petit Brabancon officially in 2021]. I would love to hear your thoughts on sukekiyo. You could either go with their latest pv to Houmonsha X or if you are up for something really beautiful and out of this world Kugui live.

It was so satisfying to watch someone who has never heard them before react in real time to them, and so positively as well. They’re albums are all really different, they’ve had such an evolution, and they’re all such brilliant musicians in their own right. I’ve been a fan for over 20 years now.

So glad to see more people getting into DeG! To answer your question - they are one of the biggest and most influential bands in Japan, going on since 1997 without ever changing the lineup. I think people in the comments already left great suggestions - Vinushka for me personally is the song that opened the whole universe of this band, Macabre is just a masterpiece, I can ramble about it for hours. If you'll be in a mood for a ballad, I highly recommend Ain't afraid to die. Kaya's channel is the best source of live performances and amazing translations! (Passio, thank you for always leaving grrrrreat comments!) Also, I would be very happy to see you reacting to another Japanese band that I hold so dear - the Gazette. Kaya has a second channel with translations of their songs. Dim Scene (from Standing Live Tour14 PWTDS), I believe, would be very good for the first listen :)

My favorite band! Love seeing people listen to them for the first time. And yes, they are a really dark band, lol. Both sonically and lyrically. Kyo has an amazing set of pipes as you've seen in this video. Definitely recommend checking out more of their live performances.

As Passio mentioned, hit up Kaya's channel for more videos from DEG as well as sukekiyo. The vocalist, Kyo, has a third active band as well, Petit Brabancon. Pretty much everything he creates is gold. You've really opened up a metal rabbit hole! Vinushka captures the bulk of Kyo's range, Karasu is a great rhythmic prog track, Rinkaku features upper range with heavy instrumentals (i like Kaya's live sub but the music video 1000% worth the watch), Obscure is a heavy staple of the catalog, Tosei and Kukoku no Kyoon are great ballads; Perfume of Sins, Ningen wo Kaburu, Uroko, and Ochita Koto no Aru Sora are great picks for music video watches. There's over 25 years of solid material to dig into

That was a great first reaction and it's always nice to see someone liking them on the first go - although I suppose the song worked in your favour here, they have a very wide and diverse selection of songs. It makes me want to see you dive deeper into them. I took a quick look at your channel and you don't seem to be the kind of reactor who reacts to the same band over and over again which I think is great. Nonetheless, if you haven't done so for yourself already I think you would do the community a great service by gifting us with a reaction to "Vinushka". I would also love to hear your opinions on songs like "macabre", "The Blossoming Beelzebub", "rinkaku", "tsumi to batsu" (original and remake), "The World of Mercy" and "Otogi" but I suppose seeing you react to a personalised Dir en grey playlist is just me daydreaming 😉 Anyway, your channel looks interesting enough and you seem like someone I would like to hang out with so you'll get a sub and I'm looking forward to your next discoveries :)

I'm a Slipknot fan but calling Dir En Grey the Asian Slipknot is an insult to Dir En Grey because they're their own machine. Kyo and Corey may have similar power over the crowd but Kyo is fucking Goku and Corey is Krillin if we're talking vocal power levels

their singer kyo niimura be a tenor with a insane vocal range e1-f7 he also be partially deaf in his left ear the bass player be toshiya hara lead guitar and the band leader be kaoru niikura,rhythm guitar be diesuke(die) andou and drummer shinya terachi they also be awesome live l got to see them in 2008 in orlando florida

This era of Diru might be a bit too much for a newcomer, some more accessible Metal tracks for ya would prob be from Marrow of a Bone (The Fatal Believer/Ryojoku../The Deeper Vileness) or Uroboros' (Red Soil/Stuck Man/Reiketsu... ) until you get used to their elasticity & range with their work in other genres.
